Configuration variables for CONDOR

IMPORTANT NOTE!!: Updated documentation for the configuration of CONDOR is now under https://twiki.cern.ch/twiki/bin/view/LCG/Site-info_configuration_variables#CONDOR.

These are all the necessary variables to configure the CONDOR batch system.

There are two example files coming in /opt/glite/yaim/examples/siteinfo. The site-info.def file, containing general variables and the services directory, containing the node type specific variables. Please, remember to move these files into your appropriate siteinfo directory where you store the YAIM configuration. You can also put all the variables together in the same file. For more details please check The configuration variables section in the YAIM guide.

Condor Server

The Condor Server is a glite-WN configured as a Batch Server for condor. The list of variables needed to configure it are:

  • glite-WN variables: Variables for glite-WN.
  • CONDOR specific variables: there are no condor specific variables. The following table contains variables that are part of site-info.def but they are listed here to explain what value has to be given to them using condor terminology:

Variable Name Description Value type Example Version
MY_DOMAIN Name of your Domain String pic.es 4.0.0-1
CE_HOST Hostname of the condor submitter String vce01.pic.es 4.0.0-1
BATCH_SERVER Hostname of the condor head node String condor.pic.es 4.0.0-1
BATCH_VERSION Condor release number Number 6.8.6 4.0.0-1
BATCH_BIN_DIR Directory of the condor commands String $INSTALL_ROOT/condor-$BATCH_VERSION/bin 4.0.0-1

Condor Client

The Condor Client is a Worker Node configured as an Executer for condor. You need the same variables used for the Condor Server configuration.

Condor Utils

The Condor Utils is a lcg-CE configured as Job submitter for condor. It also provides the information to be published via the site BDII and parses the accounting data to the APEL database located at the MON_HOST. The list of variables needed to configure it are:

  • lcg CE variables: Variables for lcg-CE.
  • CONDOR specific variables
    • Mandatory variables: The following table contains variables that are part of site-info.def but they are listed here to explain what value has to be given to them using condor terminology. Confor specific variables are only: CONDOR_ARCH and CONDOR_OS. They can be found in /opt/glite/yaim/examples/services/glite-condor-utils. Sys admins must ensure these variables are properly defined according to the features of the site.
Variable Name Description Value type Example Version
MY_DOMAIN Name of your Domain String pic.es 4.0.0-1
CE_HOST Hostname of the condor submitter String vce01.pic.es 4.0.0-1
BATCH_SERVER Hostname of the condor head node String condor.pic.es 4.0.0-1
BATCH_VERSION Condor release number Number 6.8.6 4.0.0-1
VOS Names of the VOs to be supported by the pool List of strings "dteam ops" 4.0.0-1
CONDOR_ARCH Architeqture of the condor pool String INTEL 4.0.0-1
CONDOR_OS Operation system of the condor pool String LINUX 4.0.0-1
SITE_NAME Name of your site String PIC-SA3 4.0.0-1
APEL_DB_PASSWORD Passphrase for the APEL DB String ;-) 4.0.0-1
MON_HOST Hostname of the location of the APEL DB String vrgma01.pic.es 4.0.0-1
JOB_MANAGER Name of the Job Manager String condor 4.0.0-1
BATCH_BIN_DIR Directory of the condor commands String $INSTALL_ROOT/condor-$BATCH_VERSION/bin 4.0.0-1

NOTE: There are no queues in the "conventional" sense in condor. Set the variable QUEUES to the short hostname of the condor server (e.g. QUEUES=condor). Then set the variable ${QUEUES}_GROUP_ENABLE accordingly to your access policy to the condor pool, e. g. as you would do in PBS.

    • Default variables: sys admins don't need to change the value of these variables unless they know what they are doing. These variables have a meaningful default value provided by YAIM and can be found in /opt/glite/yaim/defaults/glite-condor-utils.pre. Their value can be reset in your site-info.def file if necessary. Check the defaults directory section for more details.

Variable Name Description Value type Default Value Version
APEL_DB DB for the accounting String accounting 4.0.0-1
APEL_DB_USER User that writes into the APEL DB String $APEL_DB 4.0.0-1
APEL_DB_URL URL of the accounting DB String "jdbc:mysql://$MON_HOST:3306/$APEL_DB_USER" 4.0.0-1
NOTE: All the variables related to APEL you have to clarify with your DBA.
