Configuration Information in the CIC portal

YAIM has provided for a long time site-info.def files which contain configuration information specific to the VOs, like for example the VOMS servers. We understand that YAIM is a configuration tool that shouldn't contain specific values for the variables it needs to configure. It should provide good examples and publish in a clear way the syntax that it requires, but the role of publishing VO related information should be provided by other means.

Since one of the roles of the CIC portal is to to manage the available information about EGEE VOs and related VOs, we think that YAIM should, as soon as possible, stop providing VO related information.

In the future only very short syntactically correct examples will be distributed with YAIM. The configuration settings for VOs, priorities and FQANs will be available in YAIM format through the CIC portal.

Similar policy applies for users.conf and groups.conf. Only example entries for these files will be provided by YAIM.

Since tha yaimtool and the CIC portal are not fully integrated yet and some issues have to still be fixed before it can be used in operations, YAIM will still distribute good and valid default values for the different VO parameters, users.conf and groups.conf.

Involved site-info.def variables

The following list of variables will stop containing real values, but instead they will provide an example of the syntax to be followed:

# VO specific settings. See the CIC portal in http://cic.gridops.org/ to find out your VO specific information

VO_<vo_name>_VOMSES="'<vo_name> <voms_server_host_name> <port> <voms_server_certificate_dn>'"
VO_<vo_name>_RBS="<rb1_hostname> <rb2_hostname> ... <rbN_hostname>"

Other information that should be advertised in the CIC portal is:

  • Minimum number of sgm and prd accounts (for users.conf)
  • FQANs used for sgm and prd roles (for group.conf)
  • Any other FQAN a VO would like to see on a site (for group.conf)

To take into account

- Dimitar, who developed the yaim tool https://lcg-sft.cern.ch/yaimtool/yaimtool.py - CIC portal developers, who know how yaimtool and CIC portal can be integrated - Operations, to know the use cases and whether the integration of both tools meet the VO registration policies, etc. - YAIM developers, who know the YAIM code
