General objectives proposed by me in the Soundness of concept and quality of objectives

Impact for the 1st objective: "It will allow the HEP community to exploit the scientific potential of the (in particular) WLCG machine. Due to the high federal approach of the WLCG environment it will also reinforce the individual importance of the institutes working for the project and the collaboration among institutes working for the same goal in a high performance computing environment."

Impact to the 2nd Objective: "The complex computing models of the LHC experiments have implications on the operations, services and support infrastructures of the e-infrastructures. The policies and procedures established by HEP communities have been largely adopted by many communities beyond HEP and in addtion by the EGEE procedures. This is the community that in many occasions is responsible of stressing and testing new services features based on the highly demanding requirements of its applications. This SSC can therefore ensure a standard and common e-infrastructure to be used by many different communities, some of them already existing, some of them still in development phase.

In terms of existing communities the collaboration between HEP and Life Sciences goes back to several years. It has been based on the existing set of tools developed by HEP and used by many communities such as metadata catalogues or simulation toolkits. Regarding the simulation toolkits, the Geant4 package is used by life sciences in the lowest energy range provided by the toolkit. In parallel the validation of the Geant4 toolkit is performed within the HEP SSC with a clear benefit to many other SSCs.
In addition HEP at CERN has established a collaboration with life science through the PARTNER project. During this 3 years collaboration (for which 3 Marie Curie doctoral students are hosted at CERN in the Grid Support group) the project will be able to use the same e-Infrastructure available for the international communi-ties involved in the SSC and will lead to another technology transfer project be-tween HEP and life science
Close collaboration with Life Sciences on the existing common toolset is ex-pected. For example, through the PARTNER project – for which 3 Marie Curie doctoral students are hosted at CERN in the Grid Support group – further collaboration with Life Sciences will be required.

HEP has also established collaborations with the Fusion community. HEP has provided this community with the same user analysis infrastructure used by ATLAS and LHCb that has been also generalized to any new community arriving to the Grid. Several ITER applications have used this infrastructure –used also by the international communities of the HEP SSC- demonstrating therefore the open field we have towards a more general technology transfer between SSCs. The follow up of this collaboration has been agreed by the two communities."

Impact to the 3rd Objective: "The HEP has also established succesfull collabirations with United Nations initiatives thtough the UNOSAT and the ITU agencies nd most recently with the EnviroGrid project for which WLCG plays a central role. The same Grid infrastructucture applied to HEP in terms fo services, support and operation standards has also been used for these initiatives. This collaborations will allow the establishment of a stable UNO-WLCG Grid platform able to add new agencies with a minimum manpower impact thanks to the common tools developed by HEP and used as Grid gateways for namy comunities since several years. Also several private initiatives can be used for these collaborations in terms of Cluod Computing environment which could establish stable links between private initiatives, regional grid projects, United Nations initiatives and the HEP community increasing the competitiveness of the European Grid infrastructure, fostering new communities and standarizing the Grid through generic standards. This United Nations initiatives are specially attractive due to the work they perform in isolated parts of the world (specially UNOSAT) which could promote the technologies to an international level"

Regarding the Cal's objectives responded in the template, the impacts bullets here explained can also be exported and used for these objectives

try to follow as much as possible the page 16 of the work progtamme that defines the expected impact of the 1.2.3 innitiatives.
