---++ Mandate of the GSSD Working Group

The Storage Systems Deployment group discusses how the storage classes as defined in SRM v2.2 can be implemented at sites of all Tiers. For guidance some specific use cases from the experiments are used. Most Tier-1's and some Tier-2's will be asked to present their implementation plans. It is important to have people from the various storage servers present at the meetings as much of the implementation at the sites depends on how SRMv2.2 functionality is implemented in dCache, Castor and DPM. 
Therefore this group will focus on :

   * Establishing a migration plan from SRM v1 to SRM v2 so that the experiments can access the same data from the 2 endpoints transparently.
   * Coordinating with sites, experiments, and developers the deploymentcof the various 2.2 SRM implementations and the corresponding Storage Classes.
   * Coordinating the Glue Schema v1.3 deployment for the Storage Element and make sure that the information published are correct.
   * Coordinating the provision of the necessary information by the Storage Providers in order to monitor the status of storage resources, ensuring that all sites provide the experiments with the requested resources and with the correct usage.

Subsequently the group should clarify the data access strategy for the different experiments.  Clarify how they plan to use existing Data Management tools to access files by grid jobs. This also very much determines the way storage systems have to be deployed.  Given that we all use more or less the same tools this will hopefully uncover some substantial commonality which should help centres to plan for the provision of the storage infrastructure. Differences will subsist between the experiments themselves and between the centres, but these should be better understood and identified.
The GSSD group will therefore work to:

   * Ensure transparency of data access and the functionalities required by the experiments (see Baseline Service report).

One of the outcome of the GSSD group is to produce the precise guidelines per implementation focusing on deploying the specific storage
classes for a specific VO.  If needed, we will organize tutorials (for Tier-2s) and agree on mini SC targets with the experiments.

Experiments representatives, SRM developers, MSS providers, Tier-1 and Tier-2 representatives are involved in the
discussions and in the work of the GSSD. However, in order to be effective, one experiment and one specific implementation will be
targeted at a given time. Possibly working sub-groups will be put in place to proceed in parallel on multiple implementations.
