gLite 3.0 Release Notes
These notes provide a short introduction to the gLite 3.0 release and list currently known issues and limitations
The gLite 3.0 PPS release is now available. It provides the following new features;
gLite WMS/LB
gLite CE
Combined gLite/LCG WN
Combined gLite/LCG UI
FTS server
FTA
Installing the release
Please Use the
Manual Install Guide
for installation details, or the
Manual Upgrade Guide
for upgrades. There is lots of useful node-specific information there you should note.
Note that yaim has been renamed to glite-yaim and relocated to /opt/glite. Many metapackages have been similarly renamed. Full details are in the Manual Install/Upgrade Guides.
The configuration guides for native configuration via the gLite configuration management scripts will be updated during the next few days this is relevant for those who run the gLite workload management services and
VOMS and intend to avoid the YAIM wrappers.
Upgrading
The upgrade from lcg-2.7 to gLite-3.0 is described and has been tested. The upgrade from gLite-1.5 to 3.0 has not been tested and can't be seen as an upgrade because several components that have been in 1.5 are no longer part of the release bundle.
Sites and projects that depend on these will be supported individually and should contact the deployment team.
Notes and known issues
General Comments
Installation advice is given in the Manual Install and Manual Upgrade Guides.
There are some known issues with the version of Condor supplied with gLite 3.0 (6.7.10)
LF: All though there a know issues with Condor, are we sure that all these problems can still be seen or did they just show up due to other things.
- 15688
jobs remain in ready state
- Some issues related to state after a restart thus with low deployment impact;
- 15685
gliteCE after restart of a gliteCE jobs fail for a brief period. Probably a race condition which is fixed in 6.7.11.
- "Unspecified Gridmanager error" - eg 15659
. Understood to be fixed in 6.7.11.
LF: This is a complete rummor, we have not seen any evidence
- WMS job failures at a maximum of 10% seen with large job storms submitted through NS to a low number of available CEs/WNs. These bugs are logged with Condor. This issue has been known for a while.
Components based on gLite 1.5 work with Glue 1.2 but do not benefit from new attributes
gLite WMS + LB
LF: This occurs when debugging goes wrong!!
16191
is still under investigation
gLite CE
The gLite CE is configured to support only
VOMS proxies.
Accounting is not currently supported on the gLite CE
Software environment publishing on the gLite CE is supported
If you are running two CEs (typically LCG and gLite versions) please take care to ensure no collisions of pool account mapping. This is typically achieved either by allocating separate pool account ranges to each CE or by allowing them to share a gridmapdir.
lcg-RB
Condor is upgraded to 6.7.10 there is a new condor-lcg package which provides LCG modifications to the gahp_server and grid_monitor. Configuration of these is handled by yaim.
UI
The gLite 3.0 UI is a 'combined' UI, incorporating LCG and gLite components.
WN
The gLite WN has combined gLite and LCG components
DPM
A
VOMS enabled DPM is now available. Upgrade from LCG-2_7_0 is supported.
dCache
The yaim script for configuring dCache has received many updates from GridPP. It offers extended functionality but is backward compatible.
Note that dcache may show errors if you have more than around 56 CAs. If this is the case, currently the only fix is to identify CAs you do not need to support and remove them. See bug
16538
for reference.
FTS
There is still a manual step required in configuring FTS -
https://uimon.cern.ch/twiki/bin/view/LCG/FtsServerInstall15
LF: Site
BDII
site
BDII on glite CE: site.ldif file will be missing. Needs to be added manually. or run config_gip before configuring the glite CE
BDII_site_FUNCTIONS="config_edgusers
config_bdii"
Documentation
The end user guide is currently being updated.
The in depth gLite user guides have been updated and can be used.
Notes
Other issues to remain aware of;
Between LCG-2_7_0 and gLite 3.0 MySQL has been upgraded from 4.0 to 4.1. There has been a change in the password encryption, please keep this in mind.
