CERN AFS UI Update procedure

PPS

The CERN PPS AFS UI resides on CERN AFS follwing directory

  • PPS: /afs/cern.ch/project/gd/egee/glite

The default version for the PPS AFS UI is gLite 3.1. The directory structure is organized according to the following:

  • ui_PPS: symbolic link to the latest 3.1 release
  • ui_PPS_old: symbolic link to the previous 3.1 release

  • ui_PPS_3.0: symbolic link to the latest 3.0 release
  • ui_PPS_3.0_old: symbolic link to the previous 3.0 release
  • ui_PPS_slc3: symbolic link to ui_PPS_3.0

Each version of the UI software is located in a directory of naming schema

  • ui_PPS_glite_3.X_UPDATEXX

The PPS AFS UI upgrade consists of the following steps:

  1. The PPS UI links (depending on upgrade version) have to be modified to reflect the change.
  2. Remove the installation that refers to 'ui_PPS_old'-2 update (the one that comes before the one before 'ui_PPS_old')
  3. EGEE broadcast must be sent, using the corresponding [templates
    • 3.1: [LcgAfsUiAnnounceMail#PpsCurr31][PPS AFS UI 3.1 update template]]
    • 3.0: [LcgAfsUiAnnounceMail#PpsCurr30[PPS AFS UI 3.0 update template]]
  4. Update wiki page AFS UI current status with reference to the new releases

Production

The CERN Production AFS UI resides on CERN AFS follwing directory

  • Production: /afs/cern.ch/project/gd/LCG-share

The default version for the Production AFS UI is gLite 3.0. The directory structure is organized according to the following:

  • current: symbolic link to the latest 3.0 release
  • previous: symbolic link to the latest 3.0 release
  • new: symbolic link to new 3.0 release, currently being tested

  • current_3.1: symbolic link to the latest 3.1 release
  • previous_3.1: symbolic link to the latest 3.1 release
  • new_3.1: symbolic link to new 3.0 release, currently being tested

  • sl3: symbolic link to current
  • sl4: symbolic link to current

  • certificates: symbolic link to the central location of CRLs (see the AFS CRLs update for more information)

Steps of the Prod UI upgrade:

  1. Create new(_3.1) link pointing to the new release
  2. Announce the new version using
  3. A week later, move
    1. current(_3.1) > =previous(_3.1)
    2. new(_3.1) > =current(_3.1)
  4. Remove the latest installation, if all that would remain are from 3 different releases
    • if current=3.0.22-1 and previous=3.22-0 they count as one.
  5. Announce the changes
  6. Update wiki page AFS UI current staus with reference to the new releases
