PPS Site Registration Procedure
There are multiple opportunities for EGEE partners to contribute to the pre-production activity in EGEEIII.
The decision for a partner to join the PPS is of concern of the institute (providing hardware and manpower), of the partner's ROC (ultimately responsible for the allocation of resources within EGEE-SA1) and of the pre-production Coordination (responsible for the service).
A site willing to join, before starting the procedure on its own initiative, should try and reach in advance a consensus around such a move by contacting the relevant ROC and/or the PPS coordination.
The opportunity/need for a new partner to join the activity can be expressed at any time either by a ROC or the PPS Coordination. The forum to discuss such issues is the "PPS Report & Issues" section ath the weekly
WLCG-OSG-EGEE Operations meeting
Some of the activities done in PPS require the set-up and maintenance of a grid site (PPS site), some others can be performed within a production grid site. The registration procedure is slightly different in the two cases
The PPS site registration procedure:
Phase 1 - Lightweight Registration (applies to all sites)
- The site informs the ROC that they would like to take part in the PPS.
- The ROC and the site select from the list of PPS pre-defined activities
. This has to be done in consideration of factors such the local expertise, the regional needs and the requirements of the pre-production service. In particular, with this step the site may express its availability to be considered, upon demand, for the set up pilot services in a determined area. In the PPS Service Description, for each of these activities, a list of possible tasks with the corresponding estimated effort is given
- The ROC and/or site complete the Site Information Request Form
- The form is reviewed by the PPS Coordination and possible changes are discussed with the ROCs and the sites.
- If it is agreed that the site can join the PPS, the administrators of the site join the SA1 deployment Group
in Savannah, a tracker used to record PPS Activity
Phase 2 - Full Registration (applies to PPS sites, publishing in the PPS information system)
- Sites registered for activities requiring the set-up and maintenance of a PPS site, published in the PPS information system, have to follow the EGEE Site Registration Procedure
. This applies in particular to sites working in the pre-deployment test activity
- Regional web pages from some ROCs with specific information can be found on the PPS website
