julia The strategic goal for integration and operation support activities is to considerably reduce an effort currently required for performing of the LHC computing tasks on the WLCG infrastructure. While the current functionality of the monitoring infrastructure allows to detect the eventual problems and inefficiencies of the WLCG service and/or of the LHC computing activities, it does not always provide clear indication of the underlying reasons and, correpondingly, in most cases the human intervention is required for resolving the issues. Accumulating expertise in operating of the distributed infrastructure, automatic aggregation and analysis of the monitoring statistics, adapting this knowledge by the operations tools will result in enabling proactive monitoring and in establishing where possible automatic recovery procedures which are not currently a part of the WLCG operations. This will bring down the need for human interventions and will improve the effectiveness of use of the distributed resources. Belongs to 1.4.3 and in my view we can make introduction to 1.4.3 longer and probably split is subsections, one of which can be 'Progress beyond the state of the art', or following suggestions of Andrea it can go in a separate section 1.4.*
julia For analysis part. Currently analysis frameworks aim to hide from the analysis users complexity of the distributed infrastructure and of the data management systems of the LHC experiments. Still more effort is required in order to facilitate processing of the analysis tasks on the WLCG infrastructure, to increase the efficiency of the user jobs and to decrease their failure rate, which is currently rather high. Overall improvement of the performance and stability of the WLCG infrastructure and effective user support will contribute to the achievement of this goal. Moreover, further evolution of the analysis frameworks enables the possibility to delegate user tasks to the analysis server. The server will act on user behalf, it will take most optimal decisions regarding job processing, based on the integral analysis of the monitoring information and will inform user when the task is accomplished.

For Ganga/Diane: Ganga is a lightweight, end-user tool for job submission and monitoringand it provides an open framework for multiple applications and submission backends. Ganga has been a very successful development serving two of the four LHC experiments, ATLAS and LHCb for end-user analyses activities. Based on the high versatility of the system, Ganga has been offered to other communities as "Gridification toolkit", this is as an easy and realiable gateway to the Grid infrastructure. Ganga is therefore one of the strong blocks of development and support of this SSC and will be used as a key instrument to attract new communities and users to the Grid. Since EGEE-II Ganga has been used by a diverse range of applications; from Drug discovery for the avian flu virus to engineering activities such as the digital broadcasting frequency plan for the International Telecommunication Union in 2006, from simulation toolskits as Geant4 to theoretical physics studies as LatticeQCD.

The development and maintenance of Ganga is fundamental to ensure the incorporation of new users and accomplish the user analysis tasks of the HEP community.In this sense Gana will lead important challenges as the incorporation of new plug-ins to implement new Grid infrastructures, implementation of business solutions as cloud computingand a improvement of the monitoring and visualization of the jobs using Ganga as gataway.

These development will guarantee Ganga as a general toolkit for the inclusion of new communities of very diverse nature into the European e-Infrastructure

Following Julia and Andrea's inputs for this section, I give here a possible input for the Ganga part based on the workplan we wrote for EGEE-III. It should be in any case contrasted with Massimo and Kuba
