Preparing and Distributing the GridView Site Availability Reports

Instructions

1. In the first days of each month, download the previous month's reports:

  • Open a web browser and enter the link http://gvdev.cern.ch/GRIDVIEW/downloads/Reports/
  • Select the directory for last month (e.g. 201002) then select the directory 'wlcg'
  • Download the 5 Tier1 pdf files
    • e.g. For month 201002, the files were
      alice_tier1_rel_feb2010.pdf
      atlas_tier1_rel_feb2010.pdf
      cms_tier1_rel_feb2010.pdf
      lhcb_tier1_rel_feb2010.pdf
      ops_tier1_rel_feb2010.pdf

2. Request verification of the Tier2 report

.....allowing 1 week for comments (send from 'LCG Office')
  • When/If receiving feedback: ask Ian, Denise & Alberto for advice. [In general, you will need to ask GridView (gridview-admin@cernNOSPAMPLEASE.ch) to follow up and to Cc lcg.office@cernNOSPAMPLEASE.ch so that we keep a trace].
    • Example text of an email for the 201002 Tier2 verification: Subject: February 2010 - WLCG Tier 2 Reliability and Availability Report

Dear Collaboration Board Members,

Please find below the draft of the Reliability and Availability Report for the WLCG Tier-2 sites for last month: https://twiki.cern.ch/twiki/pub/LCG/SamMbReports/Tier2_Reliab_201002.pdf

Please verify your data and send comments and corrections to lcg.office@cernNOSPAMPLEASE.ch by Add deadline here.

This report will then be published on the WLCG web site and reported to the WLCG Overview Board.

Kind Regards,

When publishing, download the report from GRIDVIEW, rename lcg_tier2_rel_.pdf to Tier2_Reliab_ ThisMonth.pdf, e.g. lcg_tier2_rel_mar2010.pdf ---> Tier2_Reliab_201003.pdf

3. Request verification of the Tier1 Reports

  • Pack the 5 Tier1 reports into a zip file (Tier1_Reliab_ ThisMonth.zip - e.g. Tier1_Reliab_201002.zip).
    • To zip the Tier 1 files:
      • select the files you want to zip and right click to select 'Send to Compressed (Zipped) Folder'
  • Attach the zip file to https://twiki.cern.ch/twiki/bin/view/LCG/SamMbReports
  • Create a Tier1 summary file (e.g. T1_Summary_201002.pdf) containing only the page 2 of each Tier1 report
    • To create the summary file:
      • make sure the application Adobe Acrobat Professional is installed on your PC
      • Right click on each Tier1 file and select 'Open with Acrobat 8' (for Acrobat professional - not Acrobat Reader), Select the Document tab, Extract Pages 2-2 and Save (this puts them in files called 'Pages from ...')
      • Select the 5 new 'Pags from ...' files (using the shift key and down arrow) and right click to select 'Combine supported files in Acrobat', move the OPS page to be the first file
      • Select 'next' then 'create' then 'save' as T1_Summary_*ThisMonth*.pdf (e.g. T1_Summary_201002.pdf)
  • Send the Tier1 summary file as an attachment and the full link for the zip file to the MB list (worldwide-lcg-management-board (LCG Management Board) allowing 1 week for comments (send from 'LCG Office')
  • Example text of an email for the 201002 Tier1 verification: Subject: [WLCG MB] Tier-1 Reliability 201002

Dear WLCG MB Members,

Please find below the link to the Tier-1 Reports for last month.

https://cern.ch/twiki/bin/viewfile/LCG/SamMbReports?filename=Tier1_Reliab_201002.zip

For convenience the attachment "T1_Summary" contains only last month's availability plots for OPS + Experiments in a single PDF file.

Please send your comments to lcg.office@cernNOSPAMPLEASE.ch by Add deadline here.

Kind Regards,

4. Publish the commented Reports

Once the deadline has passed for the verification, publish the Tier1 and Tier2 reports on the page: http://lcg.web.cern.ch/LCG/reliability.htm.

(Note: This may require downloading updated files from the GridView downloads site: http://gvdev.cern.ch/GRIDVIEW/downloads/Reports)
