System Analysis Working Group

The overall goal of this working group is to gain understanding of application failures in the grid environment, and to provide an application view of the state of the infrastructure. This view can provide input to grid service monitoring and management, and help gain a better understanding of the behaviour of the system and hence improve reliability and performance.

  • Continue the work begun in the ARDA team with the experiment dashboards to enhance them for the experiments, and to enable them to provide additional data to the grid monitoring and management teams.
  • Ensure collaboration with the monitoring teams and working groups, to avoid duplication of effort and ensure that common underlying sensors and mechanisms are used.
  • Provide data on job failure rates from an application view point
  • Make recommendations on how an application community can instrument their workflows to gain better understanding of job behaviour; consider whether it might be possible to build a common framework for this.

  • This group will focus on correlating information coming from the application level with that provided by the grid services
  • The group must avoid monitoring of fabric and service level data and should work together with the monitoring teams and tools to ensure that the data needed by this WG is provided by common mechanisms.
