    • Overview of GGUS tickets:
    • Tier-0
      • the HeavyIon zero-suppression (HI-ZS) has restarted.
        • high rate reading data from Castor, using plenty of CERN-IT CPUs to do this pass: remarkably nice to see T0EXPORT doing a great job. Mail sent by Stephen to castor.support for information, but all looks OK on CMS side. Some figures: currently ~flat usage of ~2k T0 slots (plot), castor load -> out: ~5-6 GB/s ; in: ~2.0 GB/s (plot)
    • Tier-1's
      • mostly used for CMSSW 3.11 production, plus backfill jobs from the new CMS production infrastructure (aka: test jobs)

  • ALICE reports -
    • T0 site
      • Yesterday evening there was a problem with one of the xrootd serves (voalicefs05). There was a file entered yesterday which did not have a replica yet. It was accessed by about 80% of the jobs, the server was overloaded. Due to that the JobManager got overloaded also and the Cluster Monitor stopped working at many sites. During a couple of hours the number of jobs decreased enormously. Solved during the evening.
    • T1 sites
      • FZK: big amount of ZOMBIE jobs since 6 AM. The problem was because some new features of the Cluster Monitor were implemented yesterday at the site and the service was restarted with a temporary certificate which expired in 12h. That was changed and jobs are runnning again now.
    • T2 sites
      • Several operations in T2's

  • GridPP - ntr
  • IN2P3
    • Sat power cut: downtime was not declared because the procedure did not clearly identify the need for that - clarified now; all "regular" users were informed in French and English
  • KIT
    • 1 disk-only LHCb pool restarted this morning
    • downtime Thu 10-11 AM for ATLAS SRM restart (new host cert) and ATLAS 3D DB configuration change

Wednesday

Attendance: local(Daniele B, Edoardo, Elena, Eva, Ignacio, Maarten, Maria D, Massimo, Miguel, Nilo, Stefan, Steve);remote(Alessandro, Christian, Daniele A, Dimitri, Gonzalo, Jhen-Wei, John, Jon, Kyle, Michael, Onno).

Experiments round table:

  • ATLAS reports -
    • ATLAS general info
      • project tag: data11_7TeV
    • CentralServices
      • ADC Operations eLogbook migration. Yesterday (Tue 1st March 2011) the ATLAS Computing eLogbook has been successfully updated and migrated to a new machine. Many thanks to Stefan Roiser from CERN IT/ES group who took care about the whole procedure.
        • The old elogs entries will keep on working, just change the base url.
        • For security reason one needs to be signed in, even only to view eLogbook.
        • New elogs URL is atlas-logbook.cern.ch
      • Web and batch services were unavailable from outside CERN this morning.
    • T0
      • CERN-PROD: "No valid space tokens found matching query" errors: GGUS:68151; there was a problem with the DNS loadbalanced CASTOR-internal aliases. Ticket is verified.
    • T1
      • 8% efficiency for functional tests between NDGF and BNL for the 24 hours : GGUS:68155.
        • Michael: ticket was updated, FTS logs show the transfer preparation phase went OK, but then no data packets were received by BNL
        • Elena: I do not see the update
        • Maarten: indeed, the update is not present - Maria and Kyle will check why the OSG Footprints update did not make it into GGUS
        • Alessandro: there was some confusion about the transfer direction - the source is at NDGF, the destination is BNL; there were also other errors observed during the last 24h
        • Christian: there was a dCache maintenance; we will look further into the current problem when we have received the ticket update
        • added after the meeting: to speed things up Michael repeated the update text in an e-mail

  • CMS reports -
    • CMS / CERN / central services
      • CMS ready for beams. News from LHC is that they are in principle not impossible next weekend
      • some issues after the ELOG migration yesterday (automatic mails not sent? investigations in progress. Not a showstopper)
        • Stefan: the ELOG e-mail problem was due to the new hosts not being whitelisted in the cernmx service, should be fixed now
      • Castor-SRM availability issues (~30 mins) yesterday (immediately after our call). The CRC opened GGUS:68148. Now solved&verified. Clear and complete explanation by Castor (thanks). No impact on CMS activities because we were lucky: not much CERN-outbound traffic at that time.
      • SSO/login.cern.ch timeout issues observed by CMS shifter, and CRC opened a ticket (GGUS:68165). Already solved, the issue is understood: WEB sites including SSO were not available from outside CERN this morning for ~45-60 mins after 9am or so, the root cause was some firewall intervention/rules not reloaded. SSO now back online for external users. See here.
      • SLS red in many CERN services e.g. Castor for CMS (and not only), ticket opened soon before this call (GGUS:68185). Maybe, already recovered as we speak.
    • Tier-0
      • the HeavyIon zero-suppression (HI-ZS) continues, dealing with the tails already. CERN-IT resources usability was excellent: Thanks. Now lowering down a bit to normal usage.
    • Tier-1's
      • MC production with CMSSW 3.1, backfill test jobs for the new production infrastructure
      • RAL: see report of idle data transfers to MSS as of yesterday. Now understood to be related to blocks that needs to be invalidated in PhEDEx. It applies to other T1s as well. All grouped in a unique, not-RAL-specific ticket (Savannah:119227).
    • Tier-2's
      • Nothing special to report

  • ALICE reports -
    • T0 site
      • Looking into various instabilities experienced by user jobs

      • T0
        • Problem with access to lhcb-srm GGUS:68180
        • Problem with accessing of RAW files which are on tape but not staged. GGUS:68131
          • Stefan: the file should be in a T1D1 service class, hence always on disk?
          • Ignacio: that pool has the garbage collector enabled --> T1D0
          • added after the meeting: Ignacio found back the e-mail in which Roberto asked for that service class to be changed to T1D0; Stefan will check where the idea of T1D1 came from
      • T1
        • NTR
      • T2 site issues:
        • NTR

    • no news yet from the DNS provider about the feature needed for the DNS-load-balanced SRM
  • KIT - ntr
  • NDGF
    • SRM downtime tomorrow afternoon to fix kernel vulnerability
  • NLT1 - ntr
  • OSG
    • GridView availability plots being recalculated
  • PIC - ntr
  • RAL - ntr

  • CASTOR
    • affected by SLC4 passwd file problem (see below)
  • databases - ntr
  • GGUS
    • see AOB
  • grid services
    • campus firewall reconfiguration this morning caused some services to be blocked for a while (SSO, lxvoadm, lxplus, ...)
      • Edoardo: this was a routine operation, but an old access list was applied by mistake
    • the passwd file on SLC4 services was empty for ~1h starting at noon due to /tmp being full on the machine that serves the contents of those passwd files; this caused most grid-related services to fail during that period; the cause was understood and should not occur again
    • LCG-CE nodes ce111 ... ce114 will be drained and switched off (10 LCG-CE nodes remain)
    • CREAM CE ce201 will be drained and reinstalled
    • CREAM CE ce202 is back
  • networks - nta

AOB: (MariaDZ)

  • The answer to Atlas' question Monday on a non-verifiable ALARM ticket which used to be a TEAM one is: ALARM tickets were only verifiable by the original submitter since the beginning (2008/07/03). We shall now extend this functionality to all authorised ALARMers as this seems to be desirable by the WLCG community. This will be treated as a new feature request.
  • We are cleaning up GGUS tickets to ROC_CERN opened before Remedy PRMS was abandoned for SNOW. GGUS:67278 has PRMS peer https://remedy01.cern.ch/cgi-bin/consult.cgi?caseid=CT0000000747373&email=helpdesk@ggus.org&worklog=1 which is untouched since 2011/02/14.
    • ask the submitters to open new tickets referring to the current GGUS tickets, then close the current tickets (their history remains available)
  • The reason for GGUS test ALARMs for ALICE not reaching the operators or supporters was too restrictive posting permissions in the e-group alice-operator-alarm@cernNOSPAMPLEASE.ch configuration which we now changed.
