Week of 190318

WLCG Operations Call details

  • For remote participation we use the Vidyo system. Instructions can be found here.

General Information

  • The purpose of the meeting is:
    • to report significant operational issues (i.e. issues which can or did degrade experiment or site operations) which are ongoing or were resolved after the previous meeting;
    • to announce or schedule interventions at Tier-1 sites;
    • to inform about recent or upcoming changes in the experiment activities or systems having a visible impact on sites;
    • to provide important news about the middleware;
    • to communicate any other information considered interesting for WLCG operations.
  • The meeting should run from 15:00 Geneva time until 15:20, exceptionally to 15:30.
  • The SCOD rota for the next few weeks is at ScodRota
  • General information about the WLCG Service can be accessed from the Operations Portal
  • Whenever a particular topic needs to be discussed at the operations meeting requiring information from sites or experiments, it is highly recommended to announce it by email to wlcg-scod@cernSPAMNOTNOSPAMPLEASE.ch to allow the SCOD to make sure that the relevant parties have the time to collect the required information, or invite the right people at the meeting.

Best practices for scheduled downtimes

  • remote: Christian Søttrup, Peter Love, Marcelo Soares, David Bouvet

No one central was around. There was no one who had anything to add to what had already been noted here in the twiki. --Christian

Experiments round table:

  • ATLAS reports ( raw view) -
    • EOS downtime finsihed but space reporting was bad, now fixed.
    • Bulk blacklisting of ANALY queues due to pandacache service problem, now fixed.
    • Smooth running over weekend, many people at HSF meeting

  • CMS reports ( raw view) -
    • No major grid computing issue(s)
    • Running smoothly at about 220k cores
      • about 50k cores analysis, the rest production

  • ALICE -
    • High activity on average
    • CERN: 20k "ghost jobs" discovered on Tue March 12
      • Not visible in MonALISA
      • Running in the batch system, but some found stuck in gdb
      • The issue had started Mon late evening
      • The number of bad jobs steadily shrunk
      • The issue was gone by Thu
      • Root cause not understood

  • FNAL:
  • IN2P3: Scheduled maintenance on Tuesday 19th and Wednesday 20th. Due to work on the production of chilled water for the cooling systems, CEs will be in downtime on both days. SEs will be off tomorrow.
  • JINR: NTR
  • KISTI:
  • KIT:
  • NDGF: Pool reboots at UiO on Wednesday morning. Some atlas data unavailable for a few minutes. Should not impact production.
  • NL-T1:
    • Network maintenance on April 2: there may be some brief interruptions (both SARA-MATRIX and NIKHEF). GOCDB warning
  • NRC-KI:
  • OSG:
  • PIC:

  • GGUS: NTR
  • Monitoring:
    • ATLAS_GENERAL (SRMv2 OR OSG-SRMv2) metric not received for almost one month, is this still needed?
  • MW Officer:
  • Networks:
  • Security: EGI's "Security Challenge" (fake incident/drill) ongoing, affected sites should have received a notification about it. Edit: this challenge is only for LHCb sites in EGI.
