Week of 191125

WLCG Operations Call details

  • For remote participation we use the Vidyo system. Instructions can be found here.

General Information

  • The purpose of the meeting is:
    • to report significant operational issues (i.e. issues which can or did degrade experiment or site operations) which are ongoing or were resolved after the previous meeting;
    • to announce or schedule interventions at Tier-1 sites;
    • to inform about recent or upcoming changes in the experiment activities or systems having a visible impact on sites;
    • to provide important news about the middleware;
    • to communicate any other information considered interesting for WLCG operations.
  • The meeting should run from 15:00 Geneva time until 15:20, exceptionally to 15:30.
  • The SCOD rota for the next few weeks is at ScodRota
  • General information about the WLCG Service can be accessed from the Operations Portal
  • Whenever a particular topic needs to be discussed at the operations meeting requiring information from sites or experiments, it is highly recommended to announce it by email to wlcg-scod@cernSPAMNOTNOSPAMPLEASE.ch to allow the SCOD to make sure that the relevant parties have the time to collect the required information, or invite the right people at the meeting.

Best practices for scheduled downtimes

Monday

Attendance:

  • local: Julia (WLCG), Borja (Monitoring), Roberto (Storage), Olga (Compute), Michal (ATLAS)
  • remote: Darren (RAL), Victor (JINR), Ville (NDGF), Xavier (KIT), Marcelo (CNAF), Alexander (NL-T1), Sang-Un (KISTI), Dave (FNAL), Christoph (CMS), David (IN2P3), Jose (PIC)

Experiments round table:

  • CMS reports ( raw view) -
    • Some 'usual' sites issues being followed
    • Nothing very serious to mention here

  • ALICE -
    • NTR

  • LHCb reports ( raw view) -
    • Activity
      • Usual MC and user jobs.
      • Data re-stripping for 2015 and 2016 about to start (validation in progress)
    • Issues
      • Singularity installed at IN2P3 -- thanks!
      • Still a couple of tickets on data access at RAL ( 142350 and 143323) -- LHCb following up with site.

Sites / Services round table:

  • ASGC: NC
  • BNL: NTR
  • CNAF: Probably in ~2 weeks there will be a downtime for moving definitively to HTCondor CE... We would like to know from the experiments if we can move at once or if it is better to have a soft moving.
    • Chair note: Experiments to be notified in order to update their configuration.
  • EGI: NC
  • FNAL: NTR
  • IN2P3: Site will be in scheduled maintenance tomorrow. CEs and SEs will be off for the whole day: upgrade for batch system and dCache (to v5.2.)
  • JINR: NTR
  • KISTI:
    • Chair note: Network outage reported but solved already.
  • KIT:
    • atlassrm-kit.gridka.de will be in downtime on Wednesday in order to update dCache to version 5.2.
    • Next week, we'll update crmsrm-kit.gridka.de.
    • CMS informed us, that we should make sure that the CERN CVMFS signature keys are found on all our compute nodes within the next two weeks. However, we're unable to install the cvmfs-config-default rpm, that would provide those keys, because the latest cvmfs-config-egi package - 2.0.1 from UMD-4 - claims to provide them, too, while it actually doesn't. It merely contains EGI keys, none from CERN or OSG. We've started GGUS:144205 to make EGI aware of this issue.
  • NDGF: NTR
  • NL-T1: NTR
  • NRC-KI: NC
  • OSG: NC
  • PIC: NTR
  • RAL: NTR
  • TRIUMF: NTR

  • CERN computing services: NTR
  • CERN storage services:
    • EOSCMS, EOSPUBLIC, EOSALICE, EOSATLAS, EOSLHCB Storage services affected by planned network intervention ( OTG0053445). Some files could be unavailable for reading during that time frame ( OTG0053455)
  • CERN databases: Database on Demand migrations ongoing (OTG:0053337 and OTG:0053484)
  • GGUS:
    • A new release is planned for Wed this week
      • Release notes
      • A downtime has been scheduled for 07:00-11:00 UTC
      • Test alarms will be submitted as usual
  • Monitoring:
    • Final reports for the Oct 2019 availability sent around
  • MW Officer: NTR
  • Networks: NTR
  • Security: NTR
