Question 1
- In your view, what are the 3 main current issues in Storage Management (SM)?
My answer:
(Input from ASGC T1 and T2 operation)
- Single point of failures (Core services, Disk servers)
- File distribution not properly
- Rely on central database
Question 2
- What is the greatest future challenge which would greatly impact the SM sector?
My answer:
reliability, stability, performance, archiving and utilization
Question 3
- What is your site/experiment/middleware currently working on in SM?
My answer:
WLCG Tier-1 (Taiwan-LCG2) and Tier-2 (TW-FTT) centre by CASTOR and DPM respectively,
Question 4
- What are the big developments that you would like to see from your site/experiment/storage system in the next 5 years?
My answer:
- HA/Load balancing for core service and disk server.
- File re-balancing.
- Chuck or block based data store in disk server.
- Take off central database and switch to distributed metadata.
Question 5
- In your experience and area of competence, what are the (up to) 3 main successes in SM so far?
My answer:
Object-based architecture, no data access bottleneck on any head node, which makes Grid SM being PetaByte scale storage element in the world.
Question 6
- In your experience and area of competence, what are the (up to) 3 main failures or things you would like to see changed in SM so far?
My answer:
- Single point of failure on disk server.
- File distribution with good File system selection mechanism.
