BDII Service Dash Board Notes

These notes describe the evaluation of the BDII service for the LCG production. The status is summarised on the WlcgScDash pages.

Requirements

Assess Question to set assessment color if not available
 Green  Service class defined for calendar periods
EGEE.BDII is class C for all periods
 Green  Disk space requirements defined
Disk space < 10GB for working directories. Can be shared with other OS partitions
 Green  Database requirements defined
No database required
 Green  Middleware components defined
LDAP only
 Green  Connectivity requirements defined (incoming on low ports required)
Port 2170 only so outgoing is sufficient
 Green  Backup objects defined (directories, databases)
No backup required as long as re-installation is fast. Only state data is stored in AFS. If this is not available for any reason, the BDII carries on working with old copy.

Hardware

No formal capacity data is available. Current experience indicates midrange server should be sufficient.
Performance Metrics in place to assess growth
 Green  Memory requirement for application
No formal data available. Current estimate is 2GB should be sufficient. Performance metrics in place to track usage.
 Green  Inventory of hardware components defined
6 Servers with minimal disk space required.
 Yellow  Machines on order or available
2 machines in the process of being installed. Remaining to be reviewed based on stock.
 Yellow  Machines installed in appropriate location within data centre (UPS,Network)
 Green  Database server and disk space allocated
No database server

Operations

 Yellow  2nd level support organisation defined (who to call when there is a problem with the application or middleware)
First level filter based on sysadmins / FIO with application support out of GD (Yvan, Martin). Harry setting up a mailing list + Remedy.
 Yellow  Mechanism to contact 2nd level organisation
Mail to support list with case logged in Remedy for tracking.
 Yellow  Response time for 2nd level organisation
 Green  List of machines where service is running defined
