R-GMA MONBOX Service Dash Board Notes

These notes describe the evaluation of the R-GMA MONBOX service for the LCG production. The status is summarised on the WlcgScDash pages.

 Green  Service class defined for calendar periods, class M in all periods
 Green  Disk space requirements defined, about 2 GB for 1 month history
 Green  Database requirements defined, currently MySQL 4.x managed by R-GMA
 Green  Middleware components defined: R-GMA server
 Green  Connectivity requirements defined (incoming on low ports required): incoming on high ports
 Yellow  Backup objects defined (directories, databases): MySQL database (latestProducer, historyProducer)
  RED    High level diagram of services: currently a draft is available, not yet public

 Green  Code delivered and installation images available: part of LCG-2_6_0 release
 Green  Code certified
 Yellow  Administration Guide available
  RED    Problem Determination Guide available
 Green  Middleware pre-requisites (web server, LDAP, ...) defined

 Yellow  CPU power required for application: not fully clear yet, mid-range server machine should be OK
 Yellow  Memory requirement for application: as above
  RED    Inventory of hardware components defined
 Green  Machines on order or available: mon.cern.ch?

 Green  Database server and disk space allocated

  RED    2nd level support organisation defined (who to call when there is a problem with the application or middleware)
 Yellow  Mechanism to contact 2nd level organisation
 Yellow  Response time for 2nd level organisation
 Green  List of machines where service is running defined: mon.cern.ch
 Yellow  List of configuration parameters and their values for the software components
 Yellow  List of processes to monitor
 Yellow  List of file systems and their emergency thresholds for alarms
  RED    Application status check script requirements defined
  RED    Definition of scheduled processes (e.g. cron)
 Yellow  Test environment defined and available
 Yellow  Problem determination procedures including how to determine application vs middleware vs database issues
 Yellow  Procedures for start/stop/drain/check status defined
 Yellow  Automatic monitoring of the application in place
 Yellow  Backup procedures defined and tested: a draft of backup procedure is written and partially tested
