ATLAS/CMS Dark Matter Forum Topic: Implementation and choices for simplified models for dijet and dilepton searches (direct searches for mediators)
Responsibles: A, B, C, D
Task: finalize list of tools and choices that will be used to generate the simplified models for direct searches for mediators in dijet signatures
Timescale: needs completed by end of February 2015, documentation during March 2015
The Forum members working on this subject have the responsibility to settle on the
Matrix Element tools and choices that will be used in the generation of simplified models, for interpreting direct searches for mediators in dijet signatures using Dark Matter benchmarks. These tools and choices list will be agreed upon by both collaborations and used for Run-2 searches. The Forum members will discuss and work with those responsible for the theoretical choice of the simplified models (see
OverallListAndDocumentation page). Since tools and choices might be different depending on the models chosen for each of the signatures, the signature experts should work closely with the generator experts (see
MatrixElementGenerationTools page), and if possible coordinate with the choices made in other signatures. If necessary, the forum members they will include other experts who are willing to contribute or review the discussion and the outcome of the work.
Sub-topics and questions
- Choice of generators, choices in terms of NLO/matching/scales
- Choice of parameter grid points to be scanned
- Presentation of results of generic limits for reinterpretation (e.g. mass-coupling or mass-width plots)
Work log and plan
[...to be added by responsibles as work goes on...]
Suggested timeline and milestones
First ATLAS/CMS Dark Matter Forum meeting: 2nd week of January 2015
- Help convergence of the discussion on the theoretical choices for simplified models: what resonant mediators do those models introduce?
- Short presentation (2') on the plan for convergence of the work on this topic
Second ATLAS/CMS Dark Matter Forum meeting: last week of January 2015
- Obtain the final list of selected simplified models to serve as Run-2 benchmarks
- Start testing implementation and choices for dijet resonances, profiting from work done within the collaborations and from discussion with generator experts (see MatrixElementGenerationTools)
- Discuss the presentation of results of dijet resonances in terms of generic limits for reinterpretation (e.g. mass-coupling or mass-width plots)
Third ATLAS/CMS Dark Matter Forum meeting: second week of February 2015
- Have a final list of tools, choices and reinterpretation techniques for the simplified models used in direct mediator searches
- Discuss these with the Monte Carlo generator groups in the ATLAS and CMS experiments
Fourth ATLAS/CMS Dark Matter Forum meeting: first week of March 2015
- Compile written documentation (for write-up and in twikis for use by analysers) on tools and choices
- Share written documentation with Forum participants and reviewers
