SM Higgs production cross sections at √s = 13-14 TeV (CERN Report 3)


SM Higgs production cross sections (calculated official numbers a la CERN Report 3)

  • See 7 TeV XS and 8 TeV XS TWiki page for more information on calculation conditions.
  • All ggF and VBF numbers are based upon complex-pole-scheme (CPS), while WH/ZH and ttH numbers are with zero-width-approximation (ZWA).
  • The gg→ZH cross section is estimated at approx. NLO with O(αs3) in 1/mtop expansion. And gg→HZ term is included in total cross section for pp→ZH. See explanation in 8 TeV cross sections.
  • Due to bug in WH/ZH PDF+αs uncertainty calculation, the numbers have slightly decreased by 1% for 13-14 TeV. (2015.06.19)

Higgs cross section estimation via parton-luminosity function

  • Higgs cross section can be roughly estimated with parton-luminosity function with educated guess on the effective mass Mx.
  • The method is sketched below and parton-luminosity ratio plots can be found here.


Parton luminosity ratio

  • Numbers are calculated with MSTW2008 PDF set (R. Thorne). Above 7TeV, the PDF error is enormous.
  • Σqq+qqbar is the sum over q and \bar q in each proton, which should be suitable for VBF.
  • Σqqbar is where the quark has to annihilate the corresponding antiquark, so would be most appropriate for associated production (VH).
  • Σqg is also compiled for completeness.
