MUON Detector techniques and systems

A list of some open questions that definitely need to be answered:

  • Detector performance in intense magnetic fields
    • Get precise b-field maps from magnet group for all proposed FCC detector magnet configurations
    • How can muon momentum be precisely measured in such conditions?, outline r/d path
  • Operation in high background environment
    • Get the most updated simulation results on the expected background etc
    • Describe solutions for precision measurements in such conditions, outline r/d path
  • Fast signals and trigger methods
    • Relevant parameters are defined from the accelerator operation conditions (bunch crossing time, luminosity, number of overlapping event etc)
    • Exact needs should be based on a preliminary design of a DAQ-trigger system that might be used in FCC
    • What are the fastest muon detectors available?
  • High resolution for good momentum reconstruction for TeV muons
    • Define requirements form physics, simulation, off-line analysis
    • Detector performance (for all technologies), r/d path for improvements
    • Mechanical structure rigidity of large chambers needed and achievable
  • Need for muon identification/tagging/measurement and optimum detectors for each case
    • Simulation needed to define possible scenarios
    • How detectors operate in realistic FCC conditions ?(with realistic estimation of punch-throughs electrons etc from Calorimeters)
