A few notes on how to tune the beam, en vrac:
  • Beam optics file, good starting point: H8A.10
  • For beam optics scheme, please, refer to diagram posted on the wall of VELO control room (also available http://nahandbook.web.cern.ch/nahandbook/default/common/ZN2004.pdf )
  • We are supposed to be at z= ~490 m
  • Wire chambers MWPC03/04 are before us (404m)
  • Wire chambers MWPC05/06 are right after us (509m)
  • Scintillator Scint06 is the closest before us (should read about 1e6)
  • Trim magnets can be used to lightly steer the beam: Horizontal => Trim7, Vertical => Trim8 (2mm per 50A up to maximum 250A)
  • Bend magnets an be used to coarsely steer the beam H/V
  • Beam de/focusing can be done with quadrupoles Quad14, Quad15, Quad16 (15 and 16 @ 0 blow up beam size)
  • Make sure all collimators are widely open (unless you want muons or you actually want to collimate the beam...)
