Brunel v44r0 Analysis (2012/11)

The goal of this analysis is to check Brunel, LHCb's reconstruction tool, to see where CPU time is spent and look for bottlenecks and possible improvements. Several tools have been used to perform this analysis:

  • Simple timing analysis using the Timing reported by Gaudi
  • Intel Profiler

Test setup

The analysis was done on Brunel v44r0, with a configuration based on the configuration for Reco14. The option file used PrConfig_v1r1/options/Brunel/ The tests are run on volhcb34, an Intel Nehalem host dedicated to performance analysis.


Timing table analysis

A simple run of Brunel shows that in our run, 15 algorithms take 90% of the time (and that include DstWriter, not representative in this test), with 4 alorithms responsible for 57% of the time:
