LHCb Computing User Rules

These rules for users of the LHCb distributed computing system on grid are intended to avoid inefficient use of the resources provided to the collaboration by sites, and to minimise the amount of manual intervention needed by the computing operations team.

  • No massive private MC productions - please make a request
  • No multiprocessor user jobs
  • No unnecessary access to raw data
  • No sharing of user credentials
  • Only ban sites in your JDLs in the short term
  • Consider Working Group productions
  • Test properly your application: when submitting lots of jobs, only run a few and only if those succed submit the rest. When testing a new application, as a rule of thumb test each time you go up an order of magnitude: submit the first 10 jobs and check they behave as expected, then the next 100, then the next 1000, then the next 10000, ...

If in doubt please ask for advice. The lhcb-distributed-analysis@cernNOSPAMPLEASE.ch mailing list is a good starting point.

This is a dynamic list: more suggestions from members of the ops team, sites and the community of LHCb users are welcome.
