LHCb Core Software Meeting

Date and Location

27 June 2007
11:30 - 12:30
CERN (2-R-030)

Gloria, Hubert, Marco Ca., Marco Cl. (minutes), Olivier C., Olivier D., Philippe, Thomas

  • ROOT 5.16/00 about to be released.
Philippe: there will be another bug-fix: 5.14.00g (for gfal protocol)
Because of problems in the nightlies, it was not possible to test the new version, but it seemed not too bad.
  • A new major version of Geant4 (9) is being prepared an should be ready by the end of July. To be tested.

Software Releases

Gaudi (Hubert)

  • Problem with the distribution for win32. The Python LCG tar-ball was not consistent with the AFS directory, in particular because of a DLL file that is now used by GaudiPolicy to merge rootmap and genconf files.
    The tar-balls have been remade.
  • Fix in install project
  • Full stack build for all platforms

LHCb, Boole, Brunel (Marco Ca.)

  • In the T-Rec meeting as been decided that we will need a new iteration (Brunel, etc.) in 2 weeks, sill based on Gaudi v19r4

Gauss (Gloria)

  • Preparing new Gauss based on Gaudi v19r4 and Geant4 8.3

Philippe: In the stripping tests, 2/3 of the job failed during finalization (not simply reproducible). Patrick is investigating.

  • Policy for the packaging of Online:
    • Whatever needs to be released will go into tar-balls
    • Avoid proliferation of applications
  • Released on amd64 (only 4 packages... the others do not compile)
  • Hubert: problems building on win32, Oracle was missing in the LCGCMT tar-ball (win32 only).

Thomas will test Panoramix on Win32 as soon as available.

Round Table

Marco Cl.
LCG_Settings in LCGCMT 52a are breaking the SLC3 on SLC4 cross compilation (building of slc3 binaries on slc4 machines). The problem is that the tag "slc4" is implied by a tag defined by CMT and used in GaudiPolicy (combined to gcc323) to define the name of the compiler, which is wrong in case of cross compilation. I have a work-around if needed, but the problem will be fixed in LCG_Settings.
What about Panoramix on MAC?
LCG is not yet ready. We will ask for support for osx_ia32 only. We need to make our software compile on gcc 4.0 (Marco Cl. already did the exercise for gcc 4.1 and has got a patch ready to be applied).
  • Tested GRID middleware in LCG externals
    • It seems to work
  • Discussed with Marco Cl. how to solve the problem of LCG middleware versions. The best approach should be to use the environment variable CMTUSERCONTEXT. Unfortunately it seems to conflict with "cmt broadcast", so we cannot set it in the login script and we have to rely on SetupProject.
