Date and Location

June, 25 2008
10:30 - 12:30
CERN (2-R-030)

  • LCG 55 released
  • Testing Boost 1.35
  • Testing new CMT (v1r20p20080222), needed for VC9

The latest version of CMT triggered a discussion about the usefulness of version directories for the packages of a project. Now that we use the InstallArea, the version directory is more confusing than helpful (the environment refers to the latest version checked out, but the latest compiled library is used). We agreed that it is better to remove them. The plan is to do it in 2 steps:

  1. remove the version directories from the released projects
  2. modify getpack to avoid the creation of version directories in the User_release_area
The second step should occur after notification to the collaboration.

Software Releases

Gaudi (Marco Cl.)

LHCb, Boole, Brunel (Marco Ca.)

  • Preparing for the next version
  • Marco Cl.: Preparing changes in DetCond to be able to use ONLINE database.
  • Discussion after the T-Rec meeting about CondDB issues (summarized in CondDBOpenIssues).
    • Marco Cl. proposed a solution for the snapshot of ONLINE partition: generate snapshots on a monthly (or weekly, or daily...) base, and use a special service that select the correct partition depending on the time of the event.
  • It seems that the event headers of MFD files are duplicates of the ODIN bank (to be checked with Markus), if it is the case, we need remove the unneeded duplicates to save space.

Gauss (Gloria)

  • Bunch of releases last week
  • Tagging the new version
  • All the generators are moved to the latest versions, so they have to be carefully tested.
  • Status of migration to HepMC2:
    • the patch for ROOT to allow the transition is for the head version of ROOT
    • Patrick (Robbe) is trying to apply the changes to the old ROOT to test the changes with Gauss
    • if we need ROOT head to test Gauss, we will try with a stripped down version based on the nightlies
    • if we find that we can read HepMC1-based data with HepMC2-enabled Gaudi, we will ask that the patch is migrated to ROOT 5.18

HLT/DaVinci (Patrick)

  • Many changes in HLT
    • way informations are passed between algorithms
    • aliases for TCKs
  • Little changes in Phys and Analysis
  • Slowly getting to Python options (new options only written in Python)
  • Tomasz is taking care of getting the HLT summary in the RAW bank.

Panoramix (Thomas)

  • Guy released OpenScientist v16r5, to be used in the next version of Panoramix.

Round Table

We need to investigate requirements and feasibility for the "File Summary Record". Summarized in FileSummaryRecord.
Do we have a way of filtering missing/corrupted RAW banks? No. Gerhard will write something to do it.
