LHCb Core Software Meeting

Date and Location

29 Sep 2008
10:30 - HH:MM
CERN (2-R-030)

Attendees

Gerhard (EVO), Gloria, Hubert, Joel, Marco Ca., Marco Cl. (minutes), Markus, Patrick, Philippe, Thomas

Subjects

News

  • Joel: meeting for the migration of lists to egroups
  • Philippe: test installation of CASTOR 2.1.8 soon available (native support for xrootd)
  • Marco Ca.: Application Area Meeting about SVN. The message from the experiments is that we can do the migration only during the 2009/2010 shutdown.

Software Releases

Gaudi (Marco Cl.)

  • Preparing Gaudi v20r3
    • apply patches and fix bugs in savannah
    • wait for new LCGCMT to have the interface package for stand-alone RooFit
  • Hubert: problems preparing a generic cmt action/fragment to produce local Doxygen documentation

Recent problems with user messages in the standard output of gaudirun.py suggest that we add an option to dump the information to a file instead of relying on a properly formatted standard output.

LHCb, Boole, Brunel (Marco Ca.)

  • Release delayed by one week

Gauss (Gloria)

  • Hits produced in Hcal with the latest CondDB tag.
  • Patrick R. investigated the crashed after few hundreds of generic B events. Due to an inconsistency in Pythia
  • The XML for the current position of M1 (out) is available, but should not be used yet.

We need a discussion for a simulation based on the 2008 geometry.

DaVinci/HLT (Patrick)

  • Some backward incompatible developments in Phys. Needs new LHCb.
  • Gerhard: some development on the configuration (TCK).

Online (Markus)

  • Produced a couple of releases based on LHCb v25r1.

Marco Ca.: We need to remove the dependency of Online on LHCb.
After some discussion the possibilities are:

  • make a new projects with the parts of LHCb that change very rarely (e.g. Event Model)
  • move few packages down to Gaudi
The best solution seems to be the new project.

Round Table

Joel
  • Some work have been done to be able to set up the environment for Dirac using SetupProject. Next step is to install it with install_project.py.
