Software Releases

Gaudi (Marco Cl.)

  • Gaudi v21r1 tagged on Friday, should be added to LHCb nightlies (slot lhcb2) to be tested before the release.
    • HbookCnv removed, but the dependency on CERNLIB should be re-introduced to get it in the tar ball.

LHCb, Boole, Brunel (Marco Ca.)

  • Release planned for Monday on the new Gaudi

Gauss (Gloria)

  • Should release the end of next week with a clean handling of spill-over and bug-fixes.

HLT/DaVinci (Patrick)

  • HLT should be tagged soon by Gerhard
  • No special news on DaVinci. There will be some reshuffling of the packages.

Round Table

Marco Cl.
new problem with the migration to SLC5: the gcc-4.3 distributed as .rpm in SL5 is using the system version of libstdc++.so (6.0.8) which cannot be used by the binaries we compiled with the plain gcc-4.3 (using version 6.0.10 of the library). Stefan tried to recompile some of the externals using the system provided gcc4.3, but it failed on Boost on i686 (it works on x86_64). Investigation ongoing.
Pushing to get the Production Request System debugged.
  • express release of of part of the stack for MC09
  • release of the complete stack based on LHCb v27r0
    • Cannot distribute Panoramix because of the changes Guy made to the directories of OnX and OpenScientist.
Marco Ca. suggests that we should try to convince Guy the have them in the LCG externals.
  • Chris Jones tried to compile SLC4 binaries on SLC5 machines. The only problem was a bug in GaudiObjDesc patterns, which were overwriting the LD_LIBRARY_PATH removing the compatibility hacks.
  • About to release LbScripts v4r0
Philippe sent a proposal about how to deal with the sim files in future productions. The summary is that the production will not keep the sim and digi files. If they are needed, we will start a new production with the same configuration, but that keeps them.
[...discussion...] The current plan is to add to Brunel the options to copy the informations from the sim files into the DSTs, then, possibly, to write two files, one with all the data and the other with the standard DST. A production could produce the two streams for the first jobs (10-20) and only standard DSTs for the rest. If that is not feasible, the plan to have two separate production will be kept, but using the new extended DSTs instead of the plain sim files.
Marco Ca.
  • The current situation with HyperNews and e-groups is a disaster. It must be sorted out before next meeting.
