Software Releases

Gaudi (Marco Cl.)

  • Problems with the creation of the python.zip files in the nightlies, probably because of the cuncurrent builds (not easy to fix)
    • The possibility of a delayed creation (to the container package) of the python.zip file is mandatory
  • Before the release, we must get all the stuff needed for the implementation of the XMLFileSummary (check with Rob)

LHCb, Boole, Brunel (Marco Ca.)

  • Release delayed because of a change in the tracking that broke the persistency
  • Starting the tagging for the release just after the nightlies have finished

Marco Cl.: Illya added something to the database. We need a new DC06 tag to be used by default.

Marco Ca.: We need to discuss a tag-name convention for the databases, may be during the Software Week.

Gauss (Gloria)

  • Few problems in productions due to badly defined decays (old names were used)
    • Tools to produce some documentation pages (with a lot of informations) from the DEC files have been prepared.
  • Another MC09 version will be released early next week with fixes in the configuration
  • Newversion of DecFiles to be released during the day to fix some errors in an event type used in production (the production will be scratched and re-started)
  • Some development on the MC09 version is still needed to get right the overriding of symbols for Pythia now that we use gaudirun.py

Silvia: TODO

HLT (Patrick)

  • The release is needed for FEST next week

DaVinci (Juan)

  • Prepared a patched version for the stripping exercise (v24r1r1), but not released because the version v24r2 is needed for FEST and will be released soon

Online (Markus)

  • Released for FEST
  • The event serialization project (summer student) is working

Panoramix (Thomas)

  • Will be released as soon as DaVinci is out

Round Table

POOL meeting yesterday to understand status and requirements. The outcome of the meeting will be discussed in an Architect's Forum.
  • Problems with the nightlies: https has been replaced by http for anonymous SVN checkout
  • Problem with today nightlies: broken by some change in LGC to use the new tbroadcast
  • We are getting short in CPU
  • Preparing to produce the documentation in the nightlies once a week. Marco Ca. suggests to use SLC5.
10-25% of failures in Gauss during finalization. It still looks like memory corruption. We may try to run one of the jobs using Valgrind in the CAF.
The stripping people is almost ready. The rejection foreseen may cause production of empty files, which means no file written (with later problems in the workflow).
We can use the FSR machinery to force the creation of a file in any case. We could use a dummy algorithm or the algorithm that was prepared for the luminosity study.
  • Software Week in 4 weeks: collecting suggestions.
Philippe proposes an internal mini workshop on parallel computing and virtualization to define our strategy. Marco Ca. already proposed, during the T-Rec meeting, a discussion on the python configurables.
  • Reported a bug in Gaudi: problems reading a 6GB file (Markus suspects a corruption in the file caused by RFIO during writing).
Marco Ca.
We have a problem with the releases: they are too many and Hubert spend almost all his time preparing them.
It has been suggested that we set up a small team that takes care of the releases in shifts of 1-2 weeks.
The structure of the dependencies between packages becomes too complex because of the constraints introduced by the configurables. To be discussed during the Software Week
