LHCb Core Software Meeting

Date and Location

10:30 - 11:30
CERN (2-R-030)

Gloria, Gregoire, Hubert, Illya, Karol, Marco Ca., Marco Cl. (minutes), Rob

  • From the LIM meeting
    • Installation of software on CVMFS will be kept up-to-date.
    • Proposed migration to a common structure for LCG software on AFS and local installations.
The migration will be transparent for end-users (small changes required in SetupProject and LbLogin)

Round Table

Marco Cl.

  • Restructured the Javascript code for the HTML version of the QMTest summary.
    • More responsive, easier to maintain.

  • New presentation page for the log of the builds (HTML, jQuery, AJAX).
it would be nice to have an "expand all" button to see which are the packages that have been built at the same time.

Gloria: we need to prepare the slot to build Gauss (and then LHCb, etc.) on the new HepMC.
After some discussion it has been agreed to have a slot called lhcb-gauss-dev for the development of Gauss (this time we will use it to build with the new HepMC), and create new "branch" slots when needed, so that it will be possible to have many branch builds based on different versions of LHCb.

Marco Ca.: Coverity build is run twice a week, can we do it more often?
Change to 3 times a week (not that it uses the Tuesday build of LCGCMT dev slot). The logs will be added to the summary page.

Marco Cl.: We need to start using our own Coverity build machine.

  • A CondDB tag for magnet-off simulation on MC10 has been requested.
Agreed to use the same base name as the equivalent magnet-on tags.

  • Released the "final" version of LbScripts v6r1 series. All the known problems have been fixed.
  • Tested the possibility of having the debug symbols in separate files for optimized builds.
    • Working "proof of concept" configuration.
    • GDB requires that the debug symbols files are in some conventional paths: same directory, .debug subdirectory, etc. Where do we want them?
Agreed to have them in the same directory of the libraries (more messy to build the tarballs, but feasible).

Marco Ca.

  • Karol will leave at the end of the month. We are organizing a farewell drink on Wednesday the 27th of April, ~ 17:30.
  • Database Futures Workshop organized by IT (Tony Cass), for which we are required to give some feedback.
    • Marco Cl. will collect feedback from the maintainers of the various DB applications in LHCb, possibly organizing a small meeting.
