Hot topics

LbScripts issues

  • Problem with the default LD_LIBRARY_PATH:
    • the presence of Python (2.6.5p2) makes it impossible to use the system python2.6 (both SLC5 and SLC6, where it is the default)
the latest version of Python in AFS should be compiled in such a way that there is no need to set the LD_LIBRARY_PATH, and we should be using that version now.
    • gcc 4.3.5 prevents the execution of an C++ application on SLC6 machines (libstdc++ incompatible with the system one)
to be noted that the LCG version of gcc was not supposed to be in the default path (according to old decisions), but during the meeting we agreed that the compiler specified in CMTCONFIG should be afailable in the PATH

Joel: some times, on the Grid (CVMFS), the script runpy (distributed with LbScripts) is not found after the call to LbLogin.

Marco Ca. reminded the idea of explicitly setting the version of and LbScripts to be used on the grid.
It is agreed that it has to be done, starting from the separation of install_project from LbScripts, but requires some development both on the LHCbDirac side and on the LbScripts side, so the time scale is not clear.

Ben said that the change of the production version of LbScripts and install_project are not logged anywhere. Marco Ca. suggested to use elog.
It as been agreed to create elogs for releases and nightly builds.

  • LCGCMT 62b is waiting for our confirmation that NeuroBayes works and that the ROOT bug #92491 is fixed.
  • Deadline for Summer Student selection (we got 2 for computing)
  • (Marco Ca.) Deadline for paper submission to CHEP is the end of the conference
    • The internal deadline can be set to the 25th of April

Round Table

Marco Cl.

Marco Ca.

  • Deadline for the releases on the 25th of March.
  • Will start discussions on commissioning of the software.

  • Released SQLDDDV (v6 and v7) with fixes to the permissions in the installations and support for local web proxies.
  • Waiting for patches to complete the global tag
    • Problems of backward compatibilities with latest changes in Rich: to be checked.

  • Investigating the "runpy" problem.
  • Prepare some prototype code to produce XML files with profile data, so that Emmanouil can have the feeling of what to expect.
  • Migration to the new CVMFS system on Monday
    • Marco Ca.: a new e-group, more focused, is needed (currently we use lhcb-release-managers).

  • Performance problems with access to Oracle ONLINE conditions.
  • Tried to use Python options, but got a problem with the installed exit handler, which forces the exit.

  • Problem with the version of Python used in acron jobs (2.4 instead of 2.6).
  • Investigating the possibility of dynamic loading (AJAX) of summaries in the Nightly Builds web page.
    • SFT uses Django, can we use it too?
Marco Cl.: To use Django we need to maintain our own server. In any case we are investigating that possibility for Emmanouil's project.

Actions list

  • Check and fix the problem with LD_LIBRARY_PATH and Python Marco Cl. + Ben
  • Set up elogs for software releases and nightly builds problems Marco Ca.
  • Set up new e-group for release shifters Marco Ca.
  • Understand and solve the problem with the exit handler in Marco Cl.
