Subjects

News

  • Marco Ca.: tried Vidyo on Friday, but failed because of several problems
    • unsatisfactory Linux client support
    • problems with firewalls at remote institutes
    • problems with phone bridge
  • Data taking was started... with many problems
  • Marco Ca.: AF last week, nothing relevant to report
  • Ben: meeting with the librarians to discuss a common packaging solution
    • RPM is the first choice
    • we need to test it (at least to document why we can/cannot use it), but it seem that it can work
    • as a side effect, we may be able to use the same system for system installation of the LHCb software
  • Marco Ca.: internal deadline for CHEP papers is the end of next week (29th of April).

Round Table

Marco Cl.

  • Fixing issues in ProdConf and planning to add automatic tests in Jenkins.
    • Joel: we should review the write access policy.
Only a limited group should be allowed.
    • Marco Ca.: we need links to all the relevant informations on ProdCond (doc, tests, ...)
  • Mike Sokoloff has problems accessing SQLite databases (using directly lxbatch)
Direct lxbatch submission is not supported, so we cannot investigate the problem (he should try with Ganga)
  • When can we switch the default software are on lxplus to CVMFS?
As soon as we will have all the platforms installed.

Joel

  • There has been a problem in the Online with the deployment of LbScripts: the environment variable VO_LHCB_SW_DIR was not set. Fixed
  • New pre-release of LHCbDirac being tested. To be deployed next week.
  • Will Python 2.7 be the default on SLC6?
Not before LCGCMT 63 (Marco Ca. mentioned that there are problems in some nightlies with Python 2.7)
  • Problem building the LCGGrid tarball (missing original tarballs). To be checked with Benedikt.

Gloria

  • Adding new package to Gauss. The procedure is painfully long.
  • Can we build using a different HepMC version in our nightlies?
No, it's much simpler to ask SFT to set up a dedicated slot.
  • We need to prepare the initial empty DB for the detector description of the upgrade. Shell we overwrite the existing (obsolete) one?
The obsolete one can be removed, because it will be still available for MC09 via SQLDDDB v5 (or older v6).

Illya

  • Published the internal note on the new deployment system for SQLite databases.
  • Requested the roll-back of the Oracle offline CondDB to be able to apply recent changes. The DBs got desynchronized after failed replication from SQLite to Oracle.
Marco Ca.: when can we switch off Tier-1s' Oracle databases? Cannot be done before CHEP, but we can announce it.
  • Changed the frequency of the Online CondDB Heartbeat condition: added only at the end of runs.
    • SQLite snapshots are produced only when there is a new heartbeat
    • the publication to CVMFS should be modified in a similar way

Marco Ca.

  • Can we switch the default SLC5 compiler to gcc 4.6?
The gcc 4.6 binaries have been exercised enough, so we can switch (next week).

Ben

  • Problem with LbLogin in Zurich because of a bad interaction between HEPIX and LbLogin.
  • Research for the choice of a Python Web Framework
    • Django seems a good choice, but cannot be used with the CGI interface (too slow).
    • The best way to deploy Python Web applications is to use WSGI, but there is no support in IT ad the moment.
Marco Cl.: We should ask for support by IT, since we are not the only one who may be interested (SFT uses Django).

Markus

  • Release planned for the technical stop.
    • Are there any relevant changes in the rest of the stack?
DAQEvent should be checked, but there should not be any change affecting Online.

Thomas

  • Problems with Coverity builds: the ramdisk (used for the builds) gets wiped out while in use
    • no evident culprit found
    • it seems to happen sort of regularly
    • checking with Joel
  • Working on a new web page for the sumamry of nightly builds (with AJAX).
    • for the moment using Python and CGI, but it would be better with Django.

Actions

  • Discussion needed on the way we release/use data packages (operation)
  • Restrict write access to ProdConf repository (and find an e-group, existing or new) Marco Cl.
  • Collect ProdConf doc links Marco Cl.
  • Investigate the problems with Python 2.7 in the nightlies Marco Cl.
  • Modify the procedure to update the SQLite snapshots to CVMFS Ben
  • Change the default CMTCONFIG on SLC5 to use gcc 4.6 Ben
  • Install the new version of Coverity Marco Cl.
