  • Gaudi v23r4 (on LCGCMT 64a) has been released and installed on CVMFS.
    • Shell we install the SLC6 version too?
  • Problem with grid jobs suddenly failing for ~ one hour yesterday.
    • symptoms of wrong environment
    • solved without intervention
    • might be related to a couple of installations on CVMFS (LCGCMT and COMPAT)
  • Restructuring of Gaudi SVN repository
    • the repository will be down tomorrow morning (8:00-12:00)

Analysis of the ROOT Persistence I/O Memory Footprint in LHCb

Dramatic improvements when using smaller buffer and baskets and when disabling splitting.

Marco Ca.: what does exactly mean "basket size"? maps roughly to the maximum size of the event that can be stored

Marco Cl.: effect of the change on backward compatibility? No

We should change the defaults in the release ASAP.

Stefan: docs for the monitoring tool? Not yet.

Setting are tuned with options, so we can have different applications using different values.

The new version of RootCnv will be tested in the nightlies.

Projects for ISIMA Students

See CoreSoftwareProjects for reference.

Two projects can already be proposed:

  • Joel: monitoring framework.
  • Marco Cl.: QMTest replacement

If somebody has got other projects they are welcome.

Round Table

Marco Cl.

  • Coverity support suggested another recipe for the upgrade. I'll need to put the service offline for a couple of days.
  • Understood the problem of missing symbol in the nightlies reported by Marco Ca.
    • an inconsistent initial environment (mixture of gcc46 and gcc43) produces the error, but we do not know yet why the environment was wrong (Thomas is investigating).
    • see, for example, today's slot lhcb-head for both x86_64 gcc43 platforms

  • Gauss is not yet compiling on gcc46. Some of the generator libraries we are using are not available. We may do some tests picking up the gcc43 version to see Gauss itself compiles fine. Meanwhile Ben will request our generator libraries (or more recent version of them) to be compiled on gcc46
  • Packages to be able to have our versions of the LCG_GeneratorsInterfaces have been put in svn and in the Gauss lhcb-prerelease nigthly. Open issue to fix relative path for LCG_release_area and LCG_external_area definition in LCG_Settings
  • Sam Gregson and Alex Shires have prepared a script to merge xmlsummaries. It can be run retrieving them from storage but it would be nice if it could be run in the production workflow.

  • Back for few months.
  • Added QMTest for the package that links Rivet and Gauss.
  • At least Rivet is available for gcc46 (may be only SLC6).

  • Last week mentioned an increased memory usage with gcc46, but actually it was because it was built in debug mode.

Marco Ca.

  • Will prepare the new LHCb next week (may be with the new RootCnv).
  • Reprocessing is running.

  • Will come back next week to present status of FSR.

  • Timing histograms are in latest Gaudi.
  • Spoke with Moore/Hlt people to have performance parameters to measure.
  • Updated the default CMTCONFIG, which caused a few troubles.
    • Note: We need a DB of platforms a project was built for (implicit when we move to RPM).

  • Two Online releases.

  • Added the possibility to hack the environment of the environment of the nightlies from configuration (not supported by the web editor).
