Production Owner Manual for Parked Data (i.e. Parking Valet)

Introduction

Some special data sets or streams, like the 2013 2.76 TeV data, are not part of the standard processing and are "parked" until the required software or resources become available. In order to make sure they don't get forgotten, a Production Owner, a.k.a. Parking Valet is assigned. This person has the responsibility of making sure all ingredients are made available for the production to run painlessly. For normal pp data the OPG oversees this.

Tasks

In most of the cases part or all of the parked data will have been prompt-processed. It is assumed that a small test sample is available in the following. Else, one needs to request a test production:

  • A stripping selection that does not keep more than O(10%) of the data must be made available and released. That implies a Stripping and DaVinci release.
    • contact the relevant WG liaisons LHCbWGLiaisons and stripping co-ordinators.
    • This step runs last but needs to most thinking and preparation and thus should be started at the beginning.
  • Fill a new ReprocessingChecklist, in particular
    • The track alignment is available
    • The RICH alignment and calibration is available, this requires the above
    • All are released in CondDB
  • Define Brunel options that would be run in the reprocessing of that data. As the data has already been processed once the same options should work.
    • Make sure they have been tested.
  • Define stripping and mergind options (they should have been made by the stripping co-ordinators when making the DaVinci release)
  • Define the production steps (ask a production expert)

See details at ReprocessingChecklist.

None of these steps except some testing have to be done by the Valet but should be followed up, and sometimes people need reminders.
