The high voltage and bias for the PMTs are supplied by CAEN modules located in D3 (rack D3B05). The power supply system comprises
  • an SY5527 main frame,
  • an A1535 module (24 channels, 3.5 kV, 3 mA), located in slot 0,
  • two A1538D modules (12 channels, 1.5 kV, 10 mA), located in slots 3 and 5.

The A1535 provides the HV for all PMTs, the A1538D in slot 3 provides the bias for the B side stations, and the A1538D in slot 5 provides the bias for the F side stations.

The HV settings for RUN2 are given in the document below. The Bias should be -333V on all channels.


The SY5527 main frame is registered on the network as hrccaen01. It is interfaced to the ECS through OPC. The OPC clients are running on hrccc0104w.

In normal operation, the HV is controlled through the FSM. When switching on make sure to first ramp up the bias voltages (nodes HRC_HV_BIASB and HRC_HV_BIASF) and only after they have reached the nominal value (-333 V) the HV (nodes HRC_HV_HVB and HRC_HV_HVF). An overview of the voltages, currents and states of each channel is displayed on the panel associated to the HRC_HV node.

The recipes (i. e. settings for voltage, trip current, ramp speed, and voltage limit associated to the READY and STANDBY states) for HV and bias can be inspected and modified by navigating to the respective subnode (HRC_HV_HVB/F, HRC_HV_BIASB/F) and clicking on the button "Recipes…". On the panel which pops up, click "Load from file…" to import the settings from a text file, check that the table is updated correctly, and click "Save".

In addition to the normal control through WinCC, the status can be checked through simple tools provided by CAEN.

  • To see the status of the SY5527, open hrccaen01 in a web browser.
  • To see the status of the channels, go to /group/hrc/hv/ and do java -jar ChannelsController.jar hrccaen01 uname pwd (replace uname and pwd by the login and password).

The MAC address of the SY5527 main frame is 00-30-64-22-61-3F.

The main frame and the A1535 module are registered in the CERN electronics pool database.
