Infrastructure comprises the hardware such as computers, network switches but also environmental conditions such as power distribution and airconditioning.

The main component is the SC1425 from DELL.

BIOS updates / wrong addresses for IPMI interface

The BoardManagementController (BMC) firmware was badly configured, so that it snatched an arbitry address which was transmitted via DHCP, leading to misconfigured IPMI interfaces. This has been cured by downloading the latest firmware from DELL and reflashing the BIOS. This can be done on the live system, from Linux or Windows.

For the future: Several of us are now subscribed to DELL FileWatch, which should keep us up-to-date. -- NikoNeufeld - 18 Jul 2005
