L0TriggerTisTos tool

WARNINGS:

DaVinci v28r2p2 or earlier

2011 DiMuon trigger based on Pt1*Pt2 is not supported in L0SelReportsMaker. You need to "getpack Phys/TisTosTobbing r122889" to make it work.

DaVinci v26r3 or earlier

There has been a serious bug in the related code up to DaVinci v26r3 release (including v26r3) which let intermediate L0 channels like 'HCAL' be promoted to 'L0HCALDecision'. This was fixed in Phys/TisTosTobbing r102946 (getpack Phys/TisTosTobbing r102946 unless you are using DaVinci v26r3p2 or higher). The effect of this bug was that 'L0.*Decision' pattern would include such selections, leading to false TOS and TIS classifications for L0 global decision (so e.g. L0Global_TIS and _TOS in DecayTreeTuple would be wrong). TIS/TOS results for individual L0 trigger lines were fine but user must know and ignore any entries which were not L0 trigger lines.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

Please be advised that TisTossing L0 trigger has become necessary when Hlt1 changed to 1Track approach (most of our data!). Previously Hlt1 triggers were based on L0 confirmation strategy (most of Hlt1 muon triggers still are), thus it was sufficient to TisTos Hlt1 trigger.

In some older documentation we instructed people to use Hlt1L0xxxDecision trigger lines to TisTos L0 trigger. This approach is no longer possible with Hlt1 1Track strategy. Also this approach was never properly implemented for L0 DiMuon trigger. Thus, everybody should switch to using L0TriggerTisTos tool (introduced in DaVinci v25r6) described here.

L0TriggerTisTos tool is essentially the same as TriggerTisTos tool used for Hlt1 and Hlt2. Only TES location of the input HltDecReport, HltSelReports is different. Instead of using true Hlt reports decoded from the raw data, this tool needs L0 reports translated from the L0 raw data to Hlt style reports (on TES in "HltlikeL0/DecReport" and "/SelReport"). The translation is performed by L0DecReportsMaker and L0SelReportsMaker algorithms (presently in Phys/TisTosTobbing), which must be executed before the tool is used. In DaVinci v25r6 and higher you don't need to add these algorithms to DaVinci since they are configured by default as DataOnDemandSvc. If you want to use the L0TriggerTisTos tool outside DaVinci you must configure the L0 report making yourself:

The L0Conf set-up shawn above is also needed in DaVinci when re-running Hlt in DaVinci.

Set-up when analyzing MDSTs can be considerably more difficult and depends how L0 information was saved. There are some examples in presentation at Trigger & Stripping meeting on Nov 1, 2010.

Please notice that you will need two different tools in your code: TriggerTisTos for Hlt1 and Hlt2; L0TriggerTisTos for L0.

The L0 trigger names should be composed as "L0xxxDecision", where "xxx" is exact L0 name from the L0DUReport. There is also "L0Global". In addition to the L0 trigger line selections, the L0 SelReports contains also all L0MuonCandidates under "L0MuonCandidates" selection name (notice the lack of the "Decision" keyword). Similarly with L0CaloCandidates.

All L0 decision show up in the L0 DecReports. Only decisions based on Muon1(Pt), Muon2(Pt), Hadron(Et), Electron(Et), Photon(Et), LocalPi0(Et), GlobalPi0(Et), DiMuon(Pt) L0 elementary conditions translate into selections which can be TisTossed. Other conditions are simply ignored. L0 decision not based on L0Muon or L0Calo Candidates will always be classifed as TOS = TIS = false (i.e. TOB). This is also true for Hlt1 decisions which are not based on candidates.

Please be aware that because L0 candidates are selected by L0 electronics, some candidates can be lost if there are more than 2 in given detector sector. This loss cannot be overcome.
