LHCb TORCH

Welcome to the LHCb TORCH Twiki page

The Time Of internally Reflected CHerenkov detector (TORCH) is proposed upgrade of the LHCb particle identification system, which could be installed as part of a phase-II upgrade of LHCb for Run 5. The TORCH principle exploits the time-of-flight particles from the collision to a array of quartz radiator bars located downstream. Charged particles traversing the radiator produce Cherenkov photons that are propagated to the periphary of the detector by total-internal-reflection, where they are detected by an array of fast-timing photon detectors.
