Welcome to the LHCb Muon Shift Training page
This page contains the basic informations needed to be trained as muon shifter
Useful documents
Muon System Control
- Log on the ui01 machine (also other machines are good as well: you just need to see the G:\).
- Many users can use the project in parallel
- The muon project from the top: G:\online\ecs\NewShortcuts\MUON
- click on : MUSIDES_UI_FSM (shortcut to PVSS project)
- wait until all the hierarchy is loaded and the main panel appears
- From this project you can control everything
- To start using the project: take the lock!
- Exclude : just exclude the system for the sessions but does not prevent a new take action to take control
- Exclude and lock out: I exclude the system and I'm not going to take it back later in the current session by a new 'overall' take action
In order to store/control data the HLT, Storage, Monitoring and TFC subsystem should be ok (taken and allocated!).
Basics (normal procedure)
- Allocate: This is the very first part of the job. At the end of the Allocate procedure the NOT READY state must be reached.
- If there's an error: recover -> try to recover a single error. reset -> try to reset all the chambers
- Reset:
- Activity:
- This parameter is used to choose the recipes
- Allowed values: PHYSICS or COSMICS
- Activity (and save) can be used to customize the current session.
- Configure:
- You issue the configure command and then you cross your fingers. At the end you expect everything blue and 'READY' state.
- After ready state is reached you can start a run or have fun in other ways.
- Choose the parameters in TFC control.
- MEP : multi event pack (pack together several consecutive events)
- To save the changes click on 'Apply display'
- L0DU is shared with other subdetectors: better to manage it from the main panel. If needed coordinate with other subsystem experts.
- The TFC control changes can be done in any moment. Just STOP the run, change the parameters and then RESTART the run.
- Start a run:
- From a READY state: You issue a start, you wait for ACTIVE state and then you 'GO' !
Monitoring
When acquiring data it is possible to monitor the acquisition.
- Start putty
- ssh plus, enable x11 forwarding in the SSH X11 menu (placing the name of the machine you're on)
- Follow the instructions shown here for the linux approach
- Go to the 'Page editor' mode
- Specificare HIST_WRITER (do not log off from DB) to get the permissions to enable histo you want.
- Got to the DIM histogram browser panel and select the process (monaxx) you want. Then on mona click with the right button and add checked to the database.
- Then come back to the 'Online' mode.
Creating Recipes
Troubleshooting
- After issuing a configure command I got an ERROR:
- Try a RECOVER command in the main MUON SYSTEM.
- If recover does not do the job try to browse the tree until the end of the problem to see if there's anything known.
- If the error persist but the subsystem is not needed you can exclude it and go on.
- To reset a tell1
- select the Tell 1 from the Muon main panel going down the tree
- open putty and log onto the tell1 (Ex. : mutellc02)
- From the machine: sudo /sbin/service ccserv restart for 2 times. First time you are asked for a pwd. The you should reissue the command.
Contactpersons
- TMU stuff : L0 people.
- HLT stuff: Bruno de Paula.
