Outer Tracker Cosmics
This page serves as documentation for the OT cosmics setup in the LHCb pit.
Expected rate, based on measurements in the pit: about 2000 events/day
Presentations
Aim
- in situ tuning-in and measurements of efficiency and resolution
- have some real data in brunel, such that we can check that software is actually working
- reconstruct the first track in LHCb !
Setup
Scintillators:
- 1 frame has 6 scintillators of 10 x 135 cm2
- there are 4 frames
- each scintillator is read out by 2 PMs
- 1st set of two frames is positioned horizontally, next to the magnet, at about 3 meters from the cavern floor
- 2nd set will be positioned vertically, paralellel and behind station 3, at about 10 meters from the cavern floor. This is an old picture of the setup: the 2nd set of frames will eventually be vertical
- the trigger logic is build with nim electronics. It looks schemically like this
. We need a full description, including nim modules used, delays, etc. Look at nim specification for delays inside electronics.

Reconstruction
- simulation
- somebody needs to implement a simple cosmics generator in Gauss
- need all dimensions
- need estimates of muon flux and momentum distribution
- recontruction
- single track, should be simple
- complications: showers, drift-time difficult (may have poor trigger phase measurement)
- calibration
