Patching the Data Switches in the Farm Racks in D1

  • Port 48 is the link to the controls switch, patched to the controls switch in the same rack
  • Port 47 is the storage uplink, patched to D2 (see https://twiki.cern.ch/twiki/bin/view/LHCb/StorageUplink for more on patching this link)
  • Port 46-35 are patched to the the Force10 Switch, sw-daq-01.
  • Port 1 onwards are used to connect the servers.

*NOTE:*Currently, E06 and E04 are both configured in this way. It's just that rack E04 is still cabled with adjacent links on the switch alternating between links to the servers and links to the Force10 Switch. Once the cabling reflects the new scheme, then both the racks can be considered to be fully configured.

Example: Configuration on SW-D1E06-D1

The IPs assigned to each VLAN are in the same series as generated by the generate_ips script. Just take the last three bits, and turn them to '5'. This becomes the fifth address in the subnet (1, 2, 3, 4 are for the farm nodes).
