General Information

  1. You need a DESY indico account. This is not your CERN indico account. It takes a couple hours for someone to approve it. Then fill in the Registration form for the LHCb SciFi testbeam. Both actions can be done through this link.
  2. There is a hostel on the DESY site. You can register for it here. The DESY-Group is "FH-Test Beam".
  3. The dates are 01.08.2017 to 13.08.2017
  4. There is a mandatory safety instruction on 31.07. or 7.08. at 13:00 if you do not already have it. You cannot enter the area without it. The safety training for the DESY-II Test Beam Facility is valid for one year. Further information about the area can be found here. Bring your DACHS cards if you already have one. Go to the office in building 6 if you do not. You can get it before the safety training.
  5. The plan will be to arrive at least by Tuesday evening (01.08.) and setup Wednesday to Friday. Beam will be available the following Monday afternoon (07.08.).

Data Backup

Data is backed up to CERN EOS under /eos/lhcb/testbeam/scifi/tb2017_2

To shift it from the readout PC to CERN EOS run:


on the readout PC (it will prompt for your cern username).

Data Analysis

To take a look into the recorded data, there is a library called testBeamEventLibrary which provides an interface to the data recorded with the scifibeamtest software. In addition, two converters are available there to convert SPIROC and PACIFIC data into a "standard" root-file which can be used for further analysis. Look into the README to get further information about how to use the library and the converters.
