Configuring servers with yum at Point 8
Yum is the standard tool for managing packages on Linux desktop machines. At Point 8 we normally use Quattor, but there are cases where we want to intstall specific packages, without going through the template modifications required by this. Also as of today (01-05-07) not all machines are fully quattorized (the RPMs do not always come from SPMA).
For these cases we provide a complete mirror of all available RPMs of SLC4, the Online RPMs and the CCPC RPMs on
http://yum01.lbdaq.cern.ch
This is a mirror of the central archives on AFS, synchronised every night by user
online
on
gw02
. The repositories physically live on
/sw/lhcb-rpm
.
The configuration of yum can be done by installing the LHCb Point 8 specific
yum-config rpm
Notable all CCPCs are currently managed with yum!
