CMS Phase-2 Muon upgrade

New detector technology based on Gas Electron Multipliers (in red) could potentially enhance the CMS capabilities on muon reconstruction and triggering in the HL-LHC environment if the backgrounds are under control.

The scoring region is the ME1/1 volume and the plot shows a comparison between geometry v.1.0.0.0 and v.2.0.0.0

RE1 background hit rate: comparison simulation vs data

RPC_hitrate.pdf	Comparison of Monte Carlo particle fluence vs RE1 data. The data was collected during 2011 campaign using 3.5 TeV per beam energy. Simulation is scaled to a luminosity of 5.10^{33}cm-2s-1. The Monte Carlo was combined assuming contribution of neutrons, photons, electrons and positrons, fluxes were combined with the detector sensitivity for each particle.
