Introduction

This page is to collect all the MC samples (data path as well as configuration files) needed for GEM physics studies. The samples listed is updated continuously according to the GEM physics group requests after approval from the GEM Physics Group convener: Kerstin Hoepfner <kerstin.hoepfner@cern.ch>.

The currently available generator fragments are contained in the GEMPhysics sub-module of the GEMCode which is available on GitHub: here.

Conditions for generation

  • The current available fragments is making use of Pythia v8 for event generation. If needed we can use ME generators interfaced with Pythia 8 to generated non-standard Pythia (BSM) processes, therefore do not hesitate to send your request please send your request if it support GEM project smile
  • Use of the driver commands in https://twiki.cern.ch/twiki/bin/view/CMS/Recipes612SLHC#2019.
  • etailed information on Higgs cross-sections and its decays BRs see: Higgs xsec twiki
  • Technical conditions:
    • CMSSW 620_SLHC5 (with this version of the official recipe the known issues about the frame rotation and the 8 eta partition are fixed)
    • Use old geometry with 8 partitions (not yet long/short chambers) option --geometry Extended2019
    • Output format AOSIM
    • By default no cuts are placed on pt and eta at GEN level, to ensure that the samples can be reused in very high eta studies, e.g. 2.4 < eta < 3.0. If you need to add a filter at GEN level send it in your request, we assume you estimated the acceptance of your process in advance.

  • All python configuration files used for PU 0 signal samples are committed to github

  • For the CMSSW release, runtime environment, and cmsDriver.py command used to generate PU 0 files see: GEMPhysicsProduction_PU0_620slhc5_v3.pdf. The CMS release used during production is tagged by Sven here. Below are the instructions to get the code in the state at the time of the production, and the python configurations to produce the samples (GEMCode).

You can access a dataset using via crab by setting dbs_url =

. To know which database to use just follow the DAS link.

You can read directly a file using xrootd CMS tool by adding the fellowing line to your job configuration:

You can know the dataset name from the DAS link in the samples tables below.

You can download a single file using xrootd CMS tool or using lcg commands. Here is an example how you can do it (you may use any CMSSW release):

For validation here are the distributions needed (Gen. and Reco. level when possible):
  • Vertex: z0 and d0.
  • Tracks: Chi2 for track fitting, and number of rechits associated to the tracks.
  • Muons: number of muons per event, pT, eta.
  • composite particle(s), mass, pT and eta.
  • MET sum_met, phi (if present).
