ECAL recHit quality flags in CMS's commissioning phase

Information from Tommaso's email circa 2009-11-25:

Dynamic flags (set on event-by-event basis) are not fully reliable and qualified. I'd say they are still in a commissioning phase. In summary:

  • flag 1 is unreliable because the chi^2 method is buggy in the current release. A fix is ready since a while, but due to a release policy in favor of stability of the SW, it didn't enter any release yet
  • flag 2 is unusable because the detector and LHC synchronization is not fixed yet. It is not buggy, though.
  • flag 5,6 (saturation) are dynamic, but commissioned and reliable in simulation
  • flag 3,4,7-9 are set via DB. They are static and largely reliable.
    • However, some channels are unstable and may or may not be properly masked in the current run. This is particularly true for a few intermittently very noisy channels. We are reacting to the newly observed ones, with new masks
