AMS-02 Silicon Tracker TWiki

The 9 layers of double-sided microstrip detectors of the AMS-02 Silicon Tracker, placed inside and outside the AMS-02 magnet bore, provide charged particle traversing position with an accuracy of about 10 microns on the curvature direction. From the coordinate measurements the particle momentum and charge sign can be reconstructed up to high energies, for a maximum detectable rigidity of approximately 2 TV/c. The Tracker is thermally stabilized by the Tracker Thermal Control System, the TTCS. The TTCS is a two phases cooling system used to remove the 2000W produced by Tracker. If you want a short introduction on the Tracker and TTCS system you can find it here. In this TWiki you will find a description of the Tracker and all the necessary steps needed to operate and check the system.

The Tracker/TTCS Shifter How-To

Shifter's User Guides

The Shifter's Guides are documents that help the shifter monitor the essential features of the Tracker and of the TTCS. The Tracker Shifter's guide is meant to describe the Tracker and the generic monitoring framework. A list of the known problems on the Tracker module is also browsable. The TTCS user guide is divided in a 3 parts course. Finally a short 'how to' guide for the shifter is available in the Documents folder of the Tracker accounts on the POCC console.

  1. Tracker Shifter's Guide (General Infos)
  2. Tracker Shifter's Guide (Instructions) (.ppt)
  3. Tracker Checklist
  4. Record of relevant action on the Tracker
  5. Ladder -609 power cycles
  6. Record of relevant action on the TTCS system
  7. Tracker Checklist (.xlsx)
  8. List of Ladder "Features"

  15. TTCS Course - part 2
  16. TTCS Course - part 3
AMS Monitoring Interface (AMI)

The AMI is an interface that helps thw shifter monitor essential information on Tracker Temperatures and TTCS operations. Links to the local and external AMI webpages are reported:

  1. AMI on Local Server in POCC (pcposp1) (filled with HKLR: unbuffered but with holes due to LOS)
  2. AMI at Cern ( (filled with HKBPB: delayed but complete)
  3. AMI at PG ( (filled with HKBPB and SCIBPB: development version)

The Tracker Expert Guide

In the Tracker User Guide you will find all the informations needed to understand and operate the Tracker System, the Tracker Thermal Control System (TTCS) and the Tracker Alignment System (TAS). Since this guide is growing up, few sections are just work in progress.
