Prerequisites: User interface

Introduction

The User Interface (UI) contains all tools and software to interact with the GRID. The UI is middleware specific, EGEE and OSG have their own UI installations. Most sites have pre-installed UI's ready to use by the user. If the user needs to install his own UI on his own machine, he does not have to install both UI installations as they are both based upon the VDT toolkit. In this case, the user just has to install one and for complete access installs an add-on to efficiently reach both EGEE and OSG. In the following, specific sites and the initialization of their UI's are listed followed by instructions on how to install an UI.

Pre-installed UI's

Following sites have pre-installed UI's which are initialized in the user shell as follows:

Site Initialization command
CERN sh shell family:
source /afs/cern.ch/cms/LCG/LCG-2/UI/cms_ui_env.sh
csh shell family:
source /afs/cern.ch/cms/LCG/LCG-2/UI/cms_ui_env.csh
FNAL pre-initialized, no initialization necessary
LOCAL sh shell family:
source $UI_LOCATION.sh
csh shell family:
source $UI_LOCATION.csh
where $UI_LOCATION has to be replaced by its actual value following the installation instructions given below.

Install a UI

The following instructions to install a UI on the user's machine covers the installation of the EGEE UI and a local condor scheduler. All necessary software can be installed with user privileges and do not require root access. The instructions are given for both shell families:

Previous: GRID credentials Top: Main page Next: CRAB installation
