Release 14 plans:

  • 50k (?) each with TRT Barrel filter w geometries ATLAS-GEO-03-00-00, ATLAS-GEONF-04-00-00, and ATLAS-GEO-04-00-00 (solenoid off, toroids on).
    • Status: Samples for debugging using 14.2.2X.Y, AtlasProduction are at: /afs/ (ATLAS-GEO-03-00-00) , /NoField/dig.trtbarrel1.root (ATLAS-GEONF-04-00-00), and /ToroidsOnly/dig.trtbarrel_B1.root (ATLAS-GEO-04-00-00)
    • In addition to what is mentioned below: TileRecUtils-00-05-11
    • Cosmic sim transform corresponds to SimuJobTransforms-00-07-92.
    • Other packages: CommissionUtils-00-00-21, SCT_Digitization-00-11-08-01, PixelDigitization-00-07-10
    • Digitization jobOptions can be found at: /afs/

  • 50k (?) each with PixelBarrel (pixel&&TRT Barrel) filter w same 3 geometries and CosmicGenerator optimization settings from Juerg Beringer.
    • The test files are at: /afs/ (ATLAS-GEO-03-00-00), /NoField/dig.pixelbarrel1.root (ATLAS-GEONF-04-00-00), and /ToroidsOnly/dig.pixelbarrel_B1.root (ATLAS-GEO-04-00-00)
    • dig.GEO-03.pixelbarrel_B1.root was produced using 14.4.0 AtlasProduction and PixelDigitization-00-07-13
    • In addition to what is mentioned for the TRT Barrel test samples above, I also used CosmicGenerator-00-00-31 and not-yet committed edited versions of SimuJobTransforms-00-07-92 and G4CosmicFilter-00-00-10 with two filter volumes.
    • jobOptions with the optimized pixel settings can be found at: /afs/

Cosmic sim future and old projects

  • Use saved cosmics at entrance to detector (TTR) and smear these so can create large cosmic samples without redoing the going through the rock - being looked at by Ahmet Bingul - Andrea commented
what you propose is certainly doable. The easiest way is to plug your smearing into the simulation code, rather than using an athena
Look for example at what we do in the EventFilters
where you can find VertexPositioners (which moves each vertex by a given quantity) and PrimaryEventRotations (which changes directionof each particle). Some combination of the two should fit your needs.
I suggest to write your own EventFilter, following what is done in G4AtlasUtilities. You can then easily activate it from jO in the
Of course I am willing to help with the technical details.
The result is now available as a package under Simulation: Simulation/G4Extensions/CosmicSmear/ and validation is on going.

  • Small test sample with lowered E threshold for tracking purposes. 5 MeV and SCTBarrel?

  • get rid of lots of the verbosity in the cosmic sim output: Done in 13.0.20, and mail sent. However, not all willing to move std::cout's to the message service, we probably have to take out certain modules for grid running.
