Results from 7 TeV data & MC Minimum Bias

The method

Four "pseudo" muon tracks are plugged into each event and isolated as if they were real tracks. Their (eta, phi) directions are generated randomly, but with some constraints:

  • phi: all 4 pseudo-tracks have the same phi
  • eta: they are symmetric w.r.t. eta = 0: +eta1, -eta1, +eta2, -eta2, with eta1 in the barrel, eta2 in the endcaps

The pT of these tracks is set to an unphysically high value, in such a way that they are not bent by the magnetic field. The contributions of these tracks in terms of the isolation variables are subtracted (vetoed) from the overall amount. The cone size is R = 0.3, the veto cone size is R_veto = 0.015.

In all of the following plots, red dots correspond to data, yellow-shadowed areas to MC.
