Notes on test beams involving HGC.

Fast Timing Test Beam

Objectives for analysis of the Si pads data

  • MIP calibration
  • Identify Landau peak, measure MPV (expect 25ADC/MIP)
    • noise characterization/removal
    • Si signal characterization (~10ns jitter between trigger and digitization which needs to be aligned)
      • cross check bias scan of non-irradiated sensors
  • time resolution
    • reference MCP (initial estimate from PM saturates at 13ps) or differential in Si
    • MIP multiplicity
    • sensors (type and width)
    • can we have a say on comparing timing from CFD analysis of the pulse or algorithm closer to HFC FE (may be compromised by ~200ps resolution on digitization without good interpolation algorithm)

Reconstruction / Analysis

  • raw data is located in /store/group/dpg_ecal/alca_ecalcalib/TimingTB_H2_Jul2015/raw/DataTree/
    • runs are stored in sub-directories: each spill is saved in a separate ROOT file
    • detailed information can be retrieved from the test beam e-log (see below)
  • Use H4 DQM code as a base start to reconstruct information from the wire chambers, Si, MCP and trigger

Information about runs with the Si pads

  • ELOG
    • An e-log is setup with the description of the runs and conditions.
    • To view it you have to register at https://meridian.roma1.infn.it:8080/
    • You can register as new user, and then configure automatic email notifications
    • The relevant sub-page of the server is Timing TB H2

  • Data location
    • Login : cmsdaq@cms-h4-05 or cmsdaq@pcethtb3 (directory is nfs mounted)
    • look under /rawdata/raw/DataTree/RunNumber/SpillNumber.root, each spill yields ~2k events
  • Format
    • the H4tree format is specified in the Fast timing group twiki (see above)
    • one can inspect fastly the pulse shapes as:
