I am basing my analysis technique off of the HIN-14-002 and HIN-15-006 papers.

3. Workflow

To set up the environment:

a) For 5 TeV data: (complete code in 8 TeV repo)

6. Macro Useage

XiCutOptimizer and SigCalcXi

  • First, put in desired cuts into the arrays and follow the instructions in the comment above the arrays. The cuts are assumed to be independent and so the histograms produced will vary each cut parameter's value with a constant choice of the remaining parameters through the Oparamindex variable. For instance, the xi3dipsig will produce as many histograms as there are cut values to vary. Each histogram will assume one of the varied xi3dipsig cut values paired with whatever cut Oparamindex corresponds to for the other cuts.
  • Compile macro. The argument is
    std::string filename
    where filename should follow the following format "XiTreeCut<TreeNumber>" where TreeNumber is an int that just indexes the tree for reference in a log and for SigCalcXi macro. The output are 2D mass vs. pT distributions.
  • Use SigCalcXi to obtain and fit mass peaks and calculate significance as well as some other values. The mass peaks are saved into a .pdf file with name built from cut parameter name, cut parameter value*10(to take care of decimal numbers in the name). Each file contains the mass peaks for each pT bin for the given parameter value.

Loosen Cuts

  • Create Tree of Cascade candidate cut parameters
    • Emailed Hong about Omegas
    • Cascade candidates empty for Test dataset -- something wrong
  • Migrate cascade mass peak fits to RooFit
    • Background function is now same as 15-006
  • Optimize loosened cuts
    • Calculate signal significance

HIN14-002 Cross Check

  • Fixed v2 for V0s
    • Bin for Ks 0.2-0.4 still has low statistics (is it worth pursuing?)
    • Bins for La 0.2-0.8 have large background towards higher mass
  • Calculate v3

To Do

  • Look at dataset issue
    • Run the same dataset on crab to see the results.
  • Calculate v3
  • Fix plot bug
  • Consider extending v2 of ksla to higher pT (apparently good up to 10 GeV even at 5TeV)
    • Might consider centrality?
  • Compare significance of no cuts on wei's dataset with Hong's dataset
  • Hong's Omega cuts are in 16-013
  • Check MC issues

2017-07-28 --- 2017-08-02

Loosen Cuts

  • Played with cascade cuts and Hong's cuts optimize significance in the 1-1.4 GeV bin. So will continue to use Hong's cuts.

HIN14-002 Cross Check

  • Calculated v3 for V0s

To Do

  • Calculate higher order harmonics until too much error
  • Consider extending harmonics of V0s to higher pT (apparently good up to 10 GeV even at 5TeV)
  • Make Omega filter with cuts from 16-013
  • Check MC issues
  • Migrate JobLog to excel
